There's the "Final Encyclopedia" which I've bought but haven't
read yet so I don't know who or what may get killed off. I do
think your list is way too short though. I'm sure there were more
       books than that. liesl

I don't know of the specific story you were referring to in your
original message, but I can think of three novels you're missing:

NECROMANCER (titled NO ROOM FOR MAN (?) in first (1960ish) pb printing)
THE FINAL ENCYCLOPEDIA
THE CHANTRY GUILD

THE CHANTRY GUILD is just published in hardcover, or you can get it
from the Science Fiction Book Club.

No doubt Jerry Boyajian can give you chapter and verse on all other
Childe Cycle novels and stories.

Nope. There ain't no more (not that I can think of, anyway).
All the random short stories were in LOST and/or SPIRIT.

    re all replys

    THANKS FOR THE HELP

But i'm sure that i am right about the being another book
i read it about 1-2 years ago but have recently re-read the series
    care of my local library.
The basic story line is about the death
of the dorsai due to a form of radiation which destroys the bones
of any-body exposed to it,the story line is about the one dorsai
left alive but not unaffected (he has his bones replaced by a form
of super hard but flexible plastic by a very strange old man ?)
who sets out to find the killer of the dorsai's

I'm sure i did not imagine reading this book if you can shed any
light on the matter then please do

    once again thanks

736.6was it this maybe ?MLNCSC::CESANIMon Jan 30 1989 12:3514
your description reminds me a little of a bomb i read some time ago
it was a 4 book saga about the "last legionary"
it seems that some sort of space legion got annihilated in the first
chapter of the first book by vibration or something except for this guy

of course he's upset and starts looking around (4 books worth of it
all pure idiocy/scientific statements like sound being propagated
in vacuum and the usual stuff)

in case you wonder how come i got all 4
        it was a gift

ciao

Gordy Dickson is another author mostly famous for one series, in
this case it's the Dorsai. I like this series, the earlier ones in
particular (I haven't read The Chantry Guild yet, but felt that The
Final Encyclopedia could have easily been cut in half). I would like
to see some more attention on the other exotic peoples sometime.

Aside from that, you'll notice that he's had many collections
released in the last few years. These are generally composed of
stories from the 1950s and 1960s. In terms of his other work, I can
recommend Time Storm, Way of the Pilgrim, & The Hoka Stories
(incredibly silly but fun).

[C] == Short Story Collection.
[J] == The book is for juveniles (however you define them)
[O] == Omnibus. Includes other books.
aka == Also known by this other title.
includes == This book wholely includes the other
rev == revision of an older title
