1278.0. "Any new Uplift novels?" by RHETT::MOORE () Wed Jun 28 1995 18:11

Has David Brin ever published a new Uplift novel (besides Sundiver,
Startide Rising, and The Uplift War)? If not, are there any rumours
    about when he might?

    Thanks,
    Martin

He is supposedly working on the sequel to Startide Rising, which has a
working title of "Brightness Reef". No idea of when it might be expected
though...

Brightness Reef, the next Uplift novel is already out in hardcover.
Don't know when the paperback will be out.

I chanced on Brightness Reef on web first, on the Future Fantasy Bookstore
homepage. And then saw it in the bookstore. I doubt it's been out for much
more than a month, so I'd expect paperback might be towards next
spring/summer. Glancing through it, it didn't immediately seem to be
apparent that it was what I'd heard it would be about, mainly following
the further adventures of the crew of the Streaker (that was the name of
the downed starship in Startide Rising, wasn't it?) It seems more a
whole new setting on a planet that had collected a number of drifter races.
Didn't have the cash to pick it up outright, but I talked to the local
library to try to get them to pick it up.

Just curious but does "streaker" mean the same in American as it does
    in Australian? (-:

re: Streaker. Well, if you're thinking of someone who strips off
their clothes and runs around for the shock effect, nah ;-)

    I see.

An attractive Streaker can be very Uplifting. ;-)
