1018.0. "Bova's The Multiple Man" by CRBOSS::QUIRICI () Mon Sep 09 1991 13:06

I happened to read this weekend, The Multiple Man, by Ben Bova.

It turned out to be a pretty good read; about a presidential press
secretary in the near future who stumbles on a plot involving
identical presidential doubles. I won't spoil it by revealing any more
    of the plot.

I think it would make a great suspense film; it's interesting that
Bova, as a sci-fi writer, doesn't quite make the grade as a suspense
writer; it's a very well constructed plot, very plausible, with a lot
of possibilities for suspense; but Bova makes it a little too straight-
    forward.

    Nevertheless, very enjoyable.

Sound like Heinlein's "Double Star". I bet it's a good book, Bova
always did write a good tale.

I agree -- I think "Double Star" would make a neat movie -- but
    *not* starring Arnold!

	re identical presidents

During the Outer Limits marathon a few weeks ago, one of the
stories was about a copy made of a presidential candidate early in the
polls. This candidate was projected to win, so they made the double
early. He went out to win the presidency then start to open channels
with an Asian country (the country that got him in). His vice-pres
starts to figure it out, i.e. shoots a rattlesnake dead on when the
other guy couldn't shoot worth beans.
I don't know how it ended as it was the last one on my tape when I
recorded the marathon. Does anyone remember?

	Thanks,
