948.0. "Katherine Kerr "Polar City Blues"" by CASEY::BROCKNEY () Mon Jan 21 1991 15:32

	Being an avid reader of both science fiction and murder
	mysteries, I was delighted to discover "Polar City Blues".
	It's like meeting Kinsey Milhone on Mars!

	The action starts on a desert planet called Hagar when a
	Confereracy diplomat is found murdered. (The universe
	is divided between three political powers: the Confederacy,
	the Allies, and the Republic, of which Hagar is a part.)
	The obvious suspects are the Allies, and that's just what
	police Chief Bates sets out to prove with the help of
	Bobbie Lacey, a tough ex-spacer who knows everything there is
	to know about Porttown, the white ghetto on Hagar.

	The action is non-stop, and the characters are extremely
	well-drawn and memorable, all 4 or 5 races of them.
	I hope we see more of Lacey and Bates in the future.

    A bad cover painting and description have not helped this book in Oz.
    I liked it and would recommend it as a "light" read.
