869.0. "Lee's The Electric Forest" by BREW11::MASSARI (Goldfish shoals nibbling at my toes) Thu Apr 19 1990 15:13

This is a topic for the discussion of a Tanith Lee book called
    "The Elcetric Forest"

I am not a fan of her books in general but this particular book
is stupendous - very short (150 pages or so)

The storyline is to do with genetic experimenting and ... I can't
say much more without giving some of the plot away

The only thing to add is that I thought the ending was totally
    unexpected - twist after twist

    Great Book

I can see why you would only want to go so far as to mention the genetics aspect
of the story, but I don't think it gives to much away to say that it deals with
the effect of technology on human behavior, only the level at which we think
it's dealing with the subject is not the level that matters. (That last bit
should be cryptic enough not to tip off anyone who hasn't read it yet.)

I liked it and was surprized by the ending.

is there another note concerning Tanith Lee? Not much activity
here for such a talented author. I just finished reading _Red as
Blood_ which is an incredibly eerie reworking of well known fairy
tales. I've also just picked up the first of her Flat Earth books,
_Night Masters_ and another collection of shorts called _The Gorgon_.
So little Fantasy appeals to me, that I am almost ashamed to admit
how taken I am with TL, but her language is gorgeous and evocative.
	Any other fans?

869.3I like here a lot....HLFS00::FLORISThere's a STORMFRONT comming...Fri Jul 13 1990 07:0112
Hi,

She's one of my favorite authors (amongst Tolkien, Jack Vance
-his fantasy novels-), and especially the BIRTHGRAVE-stories are
exiting.

I once read that TL is the most populair SF writer according to the
dutch readers. So she must have a lot off fans here in Holland.

Floris

I liked The Electric Forest. Gee, that's an old book for such a
current topic. I remember bits and pieces but I definitely remember
    the ending!

I also really liked The Silver Metal Lover altho I found it incredibly
sad. I read that during a rough spot in my life, and when I got
    to the Chapter that started

"See how brightly I'm shining!" said the little star. Then it went
    nova.

I had to quit reading. To this day I don't know how it ended.

I had heard that was being made into a movie. Anyone else heard
    that?
