495.0. "Best Con Art Shows?" by AIAG::LUTZ () Thu Jun 25 1987 16:39

Can anybody recommend which SF conventions have the best art shows?
Since taste in art varies from person to person, "best" =>
comprehensive, lots of artists, professionals are well represented.

I attended the last Boskone and fell in love with several paintings,
but I didn't want to spend money at the time. I had planned to
buy at Boskone in 1988, but it looks like I won't be going.
(Invitation only, and I don't meet the criteria.) Soooo, I'm
collecting suggestions for the best cons to look at. Hopefully,
~northeast area, and being held on a weekend.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Lunacon (Tarrytown NY outside NYC) has generally had excellent and
affordable art. The con is generally held in late March.

One of the purveyors of fine art at con's in the northeast is
MATRIX publications owned by Kennedy Poyser. (His wife, Victoria
does some nice SF and fantasy art.) He's located in Danbury CT on
Main street in a store called Courtyard Collectibles. He carries
prints, signed & numbered prints and some original art.

Prices are reasonable (I got a set of 8 signed and numbered Lela
Dowling prints for $45, matted would be $65)

Good news folks! I have been buying excellent quality limited
editions prints from a man in Texas. He has an excellent catalog,
with B&W pictures of every print for sale.

This man carries everything from Sci_Fi art to Fantasy to Comic
    Book stuff.

Some of the artists include, Ken Kelly, Whelan, Vallejo, Gould,
Canty, Cherry, Poser, and a host of others to name a few.
