461.0. "Daniel Galouye?" by CGHUB::CONNELLY (Eye Dr3 - Regnad Kcin) Fri Mar 20 1987 03:05

(another stab from the past ;-))

Has anyone else read any books by Daniel Galouye? These
would probably date to the early '60s. I seem to remember
the titles of two being "Lords of the Psychon" and "The
Simulacron", but that could be bogus. I just remember him
as being an author who had some interesting stories and who
seemed to stop publishing after the '60s. (I think he had
some short stories published in _Amazing_ around then too.)

    SIMULACRON-3 1964	[UK title: COUNTERFEIT WORLD]
    A SCOURGE OF SCREAMERS	1968	[UK title: THE LOST PERCEPTION]
    PROJECT BARRIER 1968	[UK publication only]

         I read THE INFINITE MAN a long time ago. I seem to
    remember having a really tough time keeping interested in
    that particular book. But then, you can't judge an author
    on one novel can you?

    Having read SIMILACRON-3 & A SCOURGE OF SCREAMERS many moons ago
    I can't tell you what they were about, but I did find them
    entertaining.

    I have LORDS but I do not think I've read it.

461.4Dark Screamers of the Psychon!SSDEVO::YOUNGERI haven't lost my mind - it's Backed-up on tape somewhereThu Apr 02 1987 01:4713
    I have read _Dark_Universe_ and loved it! Also read _Scourge_of_
    Screamers_ and found it tolerably good, found _Lords_of_the_ Psychon_
    very good, and havemanaged to get my hands on over half of the books
    Jerry mentioned. I find his work amazingly similar to some of
    Stanislaw Lem's best work, except for his cooler British (er, English)
    tone -- they both seem to deal with extending the present reality,
    in some very finite form, into the future with excellent vision
    of its possibilities. I have to admit that I do not currently remember
    much about _Lords_ or _Scourge_, but _Dark_Universe_, to me, ranks
    right up there with Fritz Leiber's _Gather_Darkness!_ in great classic
    sf.  'Nuff said.
