334.0. "Star Wars vs. Starcrash" by COOKIE::WECKER (Dave L.I.P.S. Wecker) Sun May 18 1986 20:49

I was watching a movie last night called "STAR CLASH". Anyone ever heard of
it? It was pretty poor however, what I'd really like to know is if it came
before or after "STAR WARS". If it was before, then I'm pretty sure Lucas must
have bought the rights since the similarities are unbelievable (please forgive
the terrible spelling):

	STAR WARS STAR CLASH
	--------------------------	---------------------------------
Ben Kenobie (Sir Alec G.)	Emperor (Christofer Plumber)
		- on a higher plane than everyone else
		- stands for good...
Princess Leigha () Stella (Carol Munroe)
		- bitchy, good heart, softens by the end
Luke Skywalker (Mark H.)	Emperors son (David Haselhoff)
		- thrust into the conflict.
	C3PO Emperors robot
		- saves the day in spite of self. Complains all the time
	Han Solo (Marjoe Gortner)
		- pilot of ship used to find the killer planet
		- even uses an honest to goodness light saber
	Death Star Killer Planet
		- ultimate weapon to take over the universe
Darth Vader Count something or other
		- symbol of evil. causes the conflict.

The movie was done in ITALY (at least that's what it looks like from the
credits) and even opens with the scene of a large battle cruiser over your
head moving away from you.

Of course this movie was more "flash gordon" than anything else, but I would
love to know who stole from who?

any ideas?

P.S.	Please mail your response (after posting) since I do not normally
	monitor this conference... thanks!

First of all, the name is STARCRASH, not STAR CLASH, and it was
made (in Italy, as you presume) in 1979 --- two years after STAR
    WARS.

I rented this movie for one reason, music by John Barry, he wouldn,t
do a bad movie. Was I wrong and so was he. But he made up for it, the
    music was bad too.

334.3Star Crash was the pits...NYTP07::LAMFri Jan 31 1992 20:058
How anyone can compare StarCrash to Star Wars is beyond me. I finally
rented this out of curiosity. The only good thing about this movie is
Caroline Munro. Everything else was terrible. Bad acting. Bad
special effects. Bad sound. It was dreadful to sit through. I ended
up fastforwarding on some parts of the movie. It was just as bad as
some 50's B movies. Christopher Plummer must have been desparate for
cash to do this kind of movie. Marjoe Gortner, well, he seems to be in
    a lot of bad movies.
