If the Doctor would just fix that darned Chameleon Circuit, the tardis
could (as originally designed) take any shape.

I always found it a bit strange that people from other times and worlds
were rarely suspicious of the police box or the attire of the Doctor and
his companions.

What's the new Doctor like? I've never even seen a picture of him...

The new Doctor ( Peter Davidson ) used to be on the series "All Creatures
Great and Small" ( I believe his character's name was Tristan ). He's not
to bad as the Doctor ( I think part of my problem accepting him is I was
so used to Tom Baker ). He is more physical than Tom Baker, relying less
on gadgets ( hence the disappearance of the trusty sonic screwdriver ) and
more on his wits ( he also seems to get into more "fights" with the bad
guys than Baker, though I could be wrong ).

If you live in the New Hampshire vicinity, you can see the new Doctor on
Ch. 11 ( New Hampshire Public television ). They show complete, uninterupted
episodes every Saturday afternoon at 5:00 . I definitely enjoy this format
over the normal 1 piece at a time. I always end up missing a key show to an
adventure for some reason or another.

Question concerning the original note here. Where are you viewing the episode
where the police box disappears? Do you know the name of the episode?

Peter Davidson has been replaced in England by Colin Baker (I believe that's
his name). That's the Doctor I wondered about. Obviously, our friend on
KZIN is in England and can get the shows right away. We poor colonists have
to wait at least a year to catch up.

The fifth Doctor that we see here in the Colonies is Peter Davison, not
"Davidson". Indeed, his former role was as young Tristan Farnon, the
vet on "All Critters...". I know that Tristan eventually did get his
Vet's degree, but didn't realize that it was from the U. of Gallifrey.

Sorry, we won't see the new doc until September-ish, apart from a quick glimpse

at the end of this series.

Good news: the tardis hasn't disappeared as of last night.

Bad news: it will next wednesday, I am told.

Still, PD goes out with a bang, the last story involves Davros, the Daleks,
zombies and is quite horrific, compared to the bland pap of tha last few years

faces dissolving etc....ahh takes me back to Daleks invade the earth circa 1965.

Nice to know that there are WHOnuts the world over.

The following on this subject appeared in SFL Volume 9 Issue 31:

Date: Thu 9 Feb 84 09:44:00-MST
From: Michi Wada <WADA@SANDIA.ARPA>
Subject: Dr. Who - Good-bye Tardis

From a newspaper article by Charles Catchpole from England:

"...Dr. Who's famous police box time machine is set to fade away
forever. BBC chiefs plan to axe the battered blue box--which has
housed the Tardis for 20 years--because young viewers do not know
what it is supposed to be. Dr. Who producer John Nathan-Turner said
yesterday: "Police boxes are a thing of the past. I think the last
one in England went about four years ago and a whole generation of
children has grown up believing the box to be a Tardis and nothing
else."
He plans to phase out the police box during the next series of
Dr. Who..."

From the article it looks like the blue police box shape for the
Tardis will disappear sometime in 1985. For those unfamiliar with
English terminology -- a series in England is the same as one TV
season in the U.S.

Nigel -

A TARDIS can look like ANYTHING...The Master's TARDIS has assumed various
shapes, for example.

HOOOOORRAAAYYY!!!!! At last we in the Boonies of South Carolina know what
you're talking about! I've found Dr. Who down here. I only got to see the
last 5 or so minutes but it was enough to know that it was the real thing.
In case any of you are banished to the outer regions of South or North Carolina,
try Ashville station 33 (PBS). They show a whole episode on Sat. (Not
quite sure when it starts I came in at the end. Maybe 1:00) I've heard a rumour
that they also show some I don't know how much each weekday night at around
11:00 or 11:30.

Dr. Who at last!
