2235.0. "Managed entities disappear from map!" by CSC32::A_LICAUSE () Wed Apr 16 1997 14:56

I'm running V4.1 of PNV on a V4.0 dunix system. Also using CDE
interface. When I try to run pnv the interface comes up, but either
none of the managed entities is displayed or when detaching the
workspace holding the event manager causes all of the managed
entities to disappear. This also happens when I occlude the map
    windows with another window.

The following errors are displayed when starting pnv. The same results
occur whether logged in as a user, user su'd to root, or logged in as
    root.

Is there any additional debugging I can turn on to find out what
private resource seems to be causing the problem?

    Al,

Check /usr/OV/registration/C for more than one version of the file
nvauth*. Delete the one you don't want.

Why are you running PNV V4.1 on DU V4.0? Can you at least upgrade to
PNV V4.1B and let me know if the problem still exists? Right now,
resources here are very, very limited and I'd like to stick to problems
with the current releases--PNV V4.1B and PNV V4.1C.

    Thanks,
    Joanna

2235.2Still broken under V4.1bCSC32::A_LICAUSEWed Apr 16 1997 18:1414
Sorry, I left off the b. I am running V4.1b.

I had an nvauth and an nvauth.orig. I removed the nvauth and
    replaced it with nvauth.orig.

Still same problem. so I renamed nvauth to nvauth.old and tried
    pnv again.

    Same problem....still broken!

Please don't recommend V4.1c. I don't have it and don't have access to
it and from what my team members tell me I don't want to run it as it
is very unstable....so say our customers as well.

Hi Al, I'm certainly NOT recommending V4.1C---see note 9.62.

The nvauth problem ---you can only have one registration file with
a command for nvauth. Move the duplicate one out of the registration
    directory entirely.

Also, try netfmt -f /usr/OV/log/nettl.LOG00 and see what that
    says.

    Hi Al,

    >Are we getting anywhere?
    NO! ;~)

From this information I can't tell you why you're getting the
duplicate definition. Usually it means that there's a duplicate
definition of something in the registration directory. It's a
warning and I don't think it's causing the "access to private
resource" problem --which is the real problem.

The colormap entry problems are usually caused by something
else (usually Netscape or a browser) that was started before
NetView. You can get rid of those by starting NetView before
running your browser. But those are just warnings also.

One other suggestion---have you installed the ECO for PNV V4.1B?
If not, can you do that and see if the problem still exists?

    Thanks,
    Joanna

    Thanks joanna,

I do have the eco installed so that's not it. but I'll struggle with
it a little while longer. I may abandon the CDE interface and see if
    that has any bearing.
