2221.0. "NetView 4.1B on same system as UniCenter 1.1" by WOTVAX::DAVIESG (I had too much to dream last night) Thu Mar 06 1997 10:46

    Hi there,

I have a management work station which I use for customer demos and
    fellow technical consultants skilling centre.

It is an Alpha Server 1000 4/266 running Digital Unix 3.2D. I have
Netview 4.1B installed and have used this, successfully, for customer
demos for some time. I aslo have a number of other Polycenter tools
configured on this box (PCM, PSW, OSCint, Scheduler etc) and all of
    them have run quite happily.

However, I have now laoded CA-Unicenter v1.1 and have started
experiencing problems with Netview. Are there any known problems with
running UniCenter and Netview on the same box? I am assuming there is a
connection because I had no problems until Unicenter went onto the
    system.

Initially when I tried to enter Netview (issuing the pnv command as
root) I'd just get to the "Starting POLYCENTER Manager on Netview
daemons:" and instead of going into the GUI I would get text messages
of daemon statuses out to the screen and a failure message saying that
a number of the daemons had not started. Running pnvsetup could not
    rectify this.

I then moved the Netview startup file from /sbin/rc3.d/S99nv_daemons to
/sbin/rc3.d/S96nv_daemons and rebooted my system. This moved it in
front of the UniCenter startup at /sbin/rc3.d/S98unicenter. On reboot
Netview can now be started and you can get into the GUI. I can now
drill down several levels and receive event messages. Functionality
    seems to have returned!

However, when I exit NetView I get the following text message...

    ------------------------------
    File: /usr/OV/registration/C/advfs
    Line 51
    Error: syntax error
    ------------------------------

...the entry on line 51 is "MinSelected 0;" Is this significant?

Am I just being paranoid about UniCenter or could there be an issue
here? Certainly moving the NetView startup before UniCenter has
    restored its functionality!

    Any opinions?
