627.0. "?? RX50's on trash 80's ??" by STAR::DICKINSON (PETER) Thu Dec 10 1987 18:40

My little brother has asked santa for some 5 1/4 " floppys for his
radioshack trs 80, and of course santa has turned to me for help.

Does anyone know if DEC RX50's will work properly on a radioshack
trs80.

btw - little brother asked for singled sided double density diskettes.

thanks,

peter

627.1Will work fine!SNDCSL::SMITHWilliam P.N. (WOOKIE::) SmithThu Dec 10 1987 21:077
    If he asked for single sided double density, then they ought to
    work just fine, as the RX-50 is single sided quad density (sometimes
    known as 96TPI). Seems like kind of an expensive solution, though,
    when you can get generic disks (made from real plastic, just like
    the top brands!) for under 50 cents each....

627.2I agree - why RX50's?CSC32::HAGERTYVeni,Vedi,$cmkrnli,rebootiMon Dec 14 1987 12:037
    I agree with .1. I used rx50's on an apple II a couple years ago,
    then discovered that even the internal price on the rx50's cannot
    compete with the price of the prices you find in the department
    stores. I now have an IBM XT and use the Polaroid floppies. I
    have no reason to complain. Most any of the floppies you buy at
    Target, et al, are of pretty good quality any more.
