405.0. "RMS example needed" by GRAEME::WELLS (Phil Wells) Tue Feb 10 1987 16:27

Looking for a program example (preferably BLISS) of read and writting
indexed files using $XABKEY. Not interested in languages that support
their own file primitives unless they are actually setting the XAB
    and doing their own I/O.

I probably won't be creating the file from BLISS, but will be adding,
    reading, and deleting records.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think you need XAB's to read/write an indexed file, only
to create it. I have accessed indexed files from Macro with only
a FAB and RAB by filling in the KBF/KSZ fields and setting
    RAC field to keyed.

You may want the XAB's to retrieve information about an existing
file, such as key locations and sizes, but they are not necessary
if you know the file's record format.

Thanks Tom. This is even better news than I had anticipated.

You don't need it to create it either.

How do you specify key positions/types/lengths without XAB's when
    creating a file (without FDL$xxx)?

    	OOOPS!

    	I just re-read .0. The magic word is "indexed". I didn't
see that the first time around. Damn that Evelyn Woods course!
