316.0. "No relocation address?" by MDR292::WALL (I see the middle kingdom...) Mon Sep 22 1986 14:28

Another idiot question, this time for a friend of mine.

What is VMS trying to tell you when a LINK command complains about
the absence of a relocation address? The person who asked me this
claims it isn't in the VMS 4.x doc set. There isn't anything
complicated going on in this program -- it's a very simple
    get-it-and-add-it-and-put-it-back MACRO routine.

I know what the error message means in plain English, but I was
wondering what sort of condition induces this message.

The problem occurs intermittently, and the only cure dicovered to
date is to log out and try again later.

Please put the EXACT text of ALL the messages in here.

I have found the number of incorrectly approximated messages, and
ignored secondary messages, to be (a) truely horrendous, and (b)
ussually the source of 90% of the confusion.

Amen! As a technical support resource, it is most frustrating
when someone comes and says "it doesn't work", you can't make
it break, and they can't give you more information.

Full error messages in the right order (or a session list)
usually give most help-type-people all they need to know.

I would guess you don't have a main routine defined...

I second 316.3

At least it's a good place to look.

Thanks for the offers. Beleive me, I know all about getting the
exact message text. I'm still trying to run it down. The problem
occurs so sporadically, it's hard to catch....
