270.0. "ANSWER BACK" by HKOV01::TSANG () Mon Jul 14 1986 16:59

Is there any way to store up various message in the 'ANSWER BACK'
location and retrieve it through a program instead of setting it by
the LK201 keyboard? Is the VT220/VT240 manual tell us what to do?
I flipped the manual over and over agin and could not get where it
tells. Please help!

re: Note 270.0 by HKOV01::TSANG

So far it appears to be only a rumor that there is a way to set
the ANSWER BACK message under program control. It has been
talked about, but it's definitely not in the manuals, and noone
has provided proof of such an escape sequence.

Sorry!

PS Anyone with access to the internal microcode source should be
able to tell us for sure whether or not such a thing exists.
Come on guys! Either it's there or it isn't.

      You should be able read the contents (_i.e._, cause the terminal
      to transmit it) by sending the ASCII control character ENQ to the
      terminal. The ENQ character has the same bit pattern as the
      number 5 (not the character '5'); you can generate it on most
      ASCII keyboards by striking the 'E' key while holding down the
      CONTROL key.
