183.0. "Used TU58's Wanted!" by TRUTH::FALEK () Tue Dec 17 1985 20:18

Do you have boxes of old TU58's sitting in some corner of your office
or lab? Wish you could get rid of them but afraid to just throw them
away because someone going through DEC's garbage cans could steal valuable
software?

Here at VRO, we are trying to amass the greatest collection of used TU58's
ever assembled within DEC. We plan to use these "System Building Blocks"
to construct a monument to the software engineering community.

If you want to get rid of your old TU58's, put them in an inter-office
envelope or a carton and send them to

	Lou Falek
	VRO3-2/B8

(Results will be posted here. After construction, the monument will be
open to the public, for a small fee).
				thanks!

At the present time, we have collected approximately 2000 TU58's.
The pile is starting to look impressive.

Don't let this part of DEC history vanish in the trash...
SEND US YOUR USED TU58's !!!

send 'em to: Lou Falek, VR03-2/B8 Thanks!

Sigh .... TU58's ... AKA DECtape II at one time...

So where is the collection of REAL DEC history, the DECtape (I)
    pile?

Walt (who still has a DECtape with PDP-15 files on it. Anybody
got a machine that can read it?)

There used to be a couple of filing cabinets full of DECtape 1s
in MRO, where the TOPS-10/20 Monitor Groups live. Alan Martin,
    are they still there?

Where are these cabinets, Dan?

Certainly, every time someone leaves 341, we uncover a load of DECtapes
while vulching the office.

I just found 113 tu58s abandoned in the hallway. Since I see the
monument is still in progress I will send them to a good home in
VRO...as soon as I find enough cartons.

re .7 I've got an old linc tape drive ... as my nightstand at home.

    Great! Send 'em along.

    Monument Status Report:
We've got around 2,500 tapes (don't have the exact number) and
are almost ready to start building. The monument will be located
in the "Learning Center" at Virginia Rd, (VR03-2) Concord, Mass.
and it will probably be some sort of Babylonian style stepped pyramid.
We will also try to add a tower to make it reach ceiling height.

Each of the machie rooms here at ZK has a large box for scrap media.
I haven't check to see if they contain any TU58's but my guess is
that you should be able to find just about anything in there.

I've seen everything from RX01 floppies to RP06 packs. The box
in the ZK2-3 lab is about 4+ feet square.

Any chance of any photographs of statue. This would be very
good for people who cannot get their bosses to send them on

How about a (short) article WITH PHOTOGRAPHS in DECworld magazine?
Supposedly everybody and their little brother gets that!

By the way, this would be good for people who cannot get their
bosses to send them on useful trips, such as this, from the field
    (*in* the U.S.)!

We've got bunches of them laying around from doing 11/750s
here in BTO. The 750 used them for the "console".

I'll start sending 'em as I run across them.
