123.0. "are we reasonable?" by ZEPPO::BANCROFT () Fri Jun 07 1985 17:47

A quote for you all.

	The reasonable man adapts himself to the world;
	the unreasonable one persists in trying to
	adapt the world to himself. Therefore,
	all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

	Sounds reasonable to me.
	Some hacker studiers (if we ignore Weizenbaum, who is a complete turd)
are of the opinion that most major advances in computer science are made by
hackers.

Weizenbaum's criticizm's hit home, eh Jym?

	I wouldn't put it that way. My beef with Weizenbaum is that his critic-
ism is based on his personal values more than scientifically verified shortcom-
ings, yet he has been taken as the intellectual justification for the suppres-
sion of hacking.

 (Upon overhearing reply .3, he casually detaches himself from another group
and rudely butts in on the conversation, drink in hand)

 --Which makes Weizenbaum unreasonable, and therefore he fits the criteria
of the quote.
