60.0. "Apple Hackers (Applesauce?)" by NY1MM::KURZMAN () Wed Sep 19 1984 02:34

There is a very interesting article in the Oct. 1 Infoworld about two college
kids named Steve Jobs and Wozniak (Berkley Blue) who were selling blue boxes
back in '71. The article describes how these guys went from making and selling
the boxes to making and selling the Apples,(and as far as roles, not much
changed).

The article also talks about good old 2600Hz himself. The article is an
excerpt from the soon to be released book (Oct. 1) "Digital Deli".

While I'm on the 2600HZ genre, there is a one page article in the Sept 27th
issue of Rolling Stone (the one with Belushi on the cover). The article is
about the Cheshire Catalyst (a banker in NY until his boss recognized him
from his last article). He has been featured in the Wall Street Journal,
Technology Illustrated, and I think I remember him from that old Esquire
(the same one that supposedly got the Applesauce crew started).
[Applesauce, in case you haven't already guessed, is my nickname for an
Apple Hacker. JDK]. Cheshire Cat also does the rubber chicken circuit for
$1500 a visit. He can be reached at TAP, 147 W 42nd ST, Rm 603, NY, NY, 10036.
The Room number is important, since they do mail-forwarding for lots of people.
His monthly newsletter is a must for anyone who likes interesting tidbits
of information of questionable nature. By questionable I mean things like
how to make those little beepers they put on expensive clothes in Dept stores
so you can stick one in an unfriend's bag, etc. I suspect there are less
respectful things published as well, so beware.
