1995.0. "Reading, UK Strangles outbreak" by CHEFS::ELKINL (Jumping Jack Flash Lass) Mon Oct 16 1995 06:49

I thought I ought to share this information for all the UK noters in
    this conference:

There has been an outbreak of "atypical" strangles at the livery yard
at Hall Place Stables, Reading. "Atypical" being the strangles virus
but not necessarily showing itself with all of the classic symptoms.
As far as I know, three horses have gone down with it, some with the
swollen lymph nodes and runny nose, others with just one or the other.
I had a word with the vet last night and he confirmed it was strangles.

Please keep this note updated if you know of any other outbreaks.

    Liz

1995.1We had the virus in West of Scotland earlier on this year......IRNBRU::MICHELLE...dinosaur eat man, woman inherit the earthTue Oct 17 1995 10:0513
Sounds like the same outbreak that we had up at our stables
in May - July time at the stables I used to board my horse
	at in Madiens, Ayrshire, Scotland.

Unfortunately Shannon came down the worse with all the symptoms
taking about ten weeks in all to fully recover. It was brought
into the jard by three new young horse from ireland.

Althought there was word of quite a bit of it about in this
area that seems to have died down over the last couple of months.
	Fingers crossed xxx
