1957.0. "Barn Fire, Westboro" by MROA::ROBINSON_S (you have HOW MANY cats??) Tue Apr 04 1995 12:35

    	Sally Atchue lost all but two of her horses last night in a barn
    fire at Quick Farms in Westboro {Ma]. The fire destroyed the newer barn
    including the indoor arena. The horses that were saved were in the old
    barn. I'm sure they will set up a fund for her, when I find out more, I
    will post it.

    	It's always sad to hear about a fire like this, but this one hits
    me hard because Sally was my first instructor and her barn is only 2
    miles from my house.

    Yes, I heard about the fire this morning on the way to work.
    It's awful. I don't think they know the cause yet.

    	a little update: she lost 2 out of 3 stallions, all of her brood
    mares, and 2 boarders. Total about 10 horses.
1957.3Terrible Loss!FSAEUR::LOTHROPWed Apr 05 1995 08:357
    I just heard on Equine-L that the vet, Charlotte Newell, lost 2 of her
    horses in this fire also. Actually, it was 2 1/2, since one of her
    horses was in foal.

    What a terrible tragedy!

    	I think it had just been born. [I was told a foal was lost]

    	They are now suspecting arson, have got dogs going over the
    	place.
1957.5Barn Fire - Arson...STOWOA::GBELLIVEAUWed Apr 05 1995 12:554
    If it was arson, I hope they find out who, and then I hope
    whoever did it is made to suffer like the poor animals in
    that fire. Anyone that cruel doesn't deserve to live in my
    opinion. When I hear this stuff it just makes me sick.
1957.6Anything new?BIRDIE::ROYThu Apr 06 1995 15:227
    Anymore information on this fire? Sally Atchue is a very nice
    person.

1957.7more infoTOLKIN::BENNETTThu Apr 06 1995 15:4011
    There was a write-up with photos in yesterday's Worcester Telegram.
    Someone was quoted as saying the search for accellerants (arson)
    had negative results (none found via search dogs).

    According to the Telegram, the barn that burned was an indoor with
    attached stalls. A relief fund has been established -- I'll bring this
    in tomorrow.

    A sad story to read.
