1679.0. "American Cowboy/Cowgirls?" by BUSY::MANDILE (Hold you, with tears in my eyes....) Fri Nov 06 1992 13:03

    Has anyone caught the new ad for the up and coming
    spin-off in the same vein as the American Gladiators?

    Looks like they are going to have a cowboy/cowgirl based
    version. Contests on horseback, with cattle, etc. etc.

    I dunno...this could be dangerous, if the quick flashes
    of film they show are true representitives of what the
    activities are....

1679.1An american show.SWAM2::MASSEY_VIIt's all in the cueFri Nov 06 1992 14:1713

    	I actually think that is a good idea. The people who compete on
    the American Gladiators are all in good shape and are screened before
    being on the show. The same thing would be done on the Cowboy one.
    Only experienced riders would be able to compete against the
    profesionals. My question is, How are they going to find profesional
    cowpersons to be on a show when the circut is so demanding on time. I
    for one would participate in that kind of competetive show, and give
    them a run for their money.

    Actually, they made a big point about getting "beginners"....
1679.3IN THAT CASESWAM2::MASSEY_VIIt's all in the cueMon Nov 09 1992 15:327
    Well in that case it wouldn't be a good idea. Just riding a horse as a
    beginner is hard enough. Trying to compete against someone would be
    impossible. Unless, the competition had nothing to do with livstock
    and was all done on the ground. I guess we will just have to wait and
    see.

1679.4Cowgal Wannabe!MRKTNG::SLINNTue Dec 01 1992 17:359
    This sounds like a blast! Where do I sign up!?
    (my thoroughbred would take one look at a cow and Have A Cow!)

    I am sure they're taking precautions.....would someone really be stupid
    enough to put a beginner on a horse and say rid'em'cowboy?!!

    (i don't know if i want to know the answer to that....)

    I have thought about this alot and think the events or tasks would be
    performed from the ground instead of on the back of an animal. It
    sounds more like a play day type of thing instead of a rodeo thing.
    Guess we will have to wait and see. I'll meet you in the arena!
