1588.0. "Abused Pony " by MPO::ROBINSON (starry eyes sparkling ablaze) Thu Jan 30 1992 13:28

In 1977, a pony named King was found in a shed in Stratham NH.
He had been shut in there for four years and manure was piled
as high as his head. His feet were 16 inches long, many of you
might remember newspaper photos of this.

Last Sunday's Worcester Telegram ran a `what ever happened to'
article about him, he is still alive. It has before and after
pictures and tells the whole story.

If anyone would like a copy of the article, send me mail.

It was a nice article. King had 4 homes since he was rescued. Each
home was loving and caring, but he was placed thru the humane scoiety
every once in awhile due to normal reasons. He is now retired
at the humane society for the remainder of his life. He required
medical attention due to blindness and old age. They claim he's an
ornery little cuss and his additude is probably what got him into
    trouble in the first place.

I remember that story! They x-rayed his feet to see where
the *inside* of the hoof was, and then went at it with a
hacksaw. He was a cute little thing......now he would be
15 yrs older, so I can understand if he is a little on the
grumpy side....not to mention 4 homes.....(:

    	One paragraph is worth quoting;

"Unknowingly, people buy a pony like that for their family,
their children. It becomes something they have a hard time
handling...They resent that. Resent turns to neglect, neglect
    	to abuse."

It also says he's had several wonderful homes over the years,
and was finally given back to the SPCA by a family moving out
of state. They felt protective of him and decided to hang onto
him, he's also good for publicity. His picture was on last years
    	SPCA Christmas Cards.

Hey, neat. I remember that story, and have wondered what became of the
little guy. Glad to hear he had a better life after being rescued.
