1478.0. "Buying Tack in U.K." by NUTS::BUSHMAN () Mon Jun 03 1991 11:48

    I'd like some advice from the English noters. (Or well traveled
    tourists) I will be in England next week and would like to go on a
    tack shopping spree! I've been to Lilly White's for breeches, etc.,
    and to Swain Adney Brigg and Harrods to window-shop for things,
    but this time I'd like to buy. Should I buy in London, or out in
    the country? Where will I get a good selection and not pay a premium
    price? My trip will take me from Gatwick out to Exeter and
    then back up to London, so I could potentially stop somewhere along
    the route. (and we Americans think nothing of driving 1-2 hours out
    of our way for things, so feel free to suggest things that aren't
    so close, too!)

    I'm particularly interested in field boots, leather girths, reins,
    and day/travelling rugs. If anyone in the Hudson, MA area would
    like to put an order in for something special, I'd be happy to look for
    around for you also.
            - Kate

1478.1No not London....to expensive!DUCK::GILLOTTWMon Jun 03 1991 13:2416
    If I were you I would definately steer clear of shopping for any horsey
    bits in London, Its aimed at the tourists and for people who are well
    off enough to own a horse in London.

    I can recommend a couple of tack shops near where I live which is the
    Reading/Wokingham area, and if you are on your way to Exeter then I
    presume you will be going on the M4 motorway which goes though this
    area.

    If you would like to know where these are mail me direct or ring me.

    If not happy shopping!

1478.2Coleman-Croft and McNeilsBELFST::MCCOMBI'm glad I live in Carrickfergus....Tue Jun 04 1991 09:069

    For the best selection of "off the shelf" saddlery go to Coleman-Croft
    which just outside St. Albans which is North of London. Also Ian
    McNeils just outside Alton near Basingstoke is very good,

    		Have a good trip
