1309.0. "Lippizan Farm" by CSSE::ESSER () Mon Jul 16 1990 16:03

Somewhere, sometime I heard about a Lippizan farm in northern
Illinois, Wadsworth I think. Is there anyone out there who can
give me any information on it. I am going to be visiting in
that area in a couple weeks and would love to visit such a
    place if possible.
    Thanks a lot.

The name of the farm is Tempel farm, which is directed by
George Williams (my old dressage instructor - originally
	from Peterborough NH).

Either he or his wife Roberta, could be contacted at
	708-244-5330.

Temple Farms is a lovely place of rolling hills and green and white
barns. When I lived in Chicago, I went up there several times to see
the dressage shows that they put on every Wednesday and Sunday May
through October. The shows start with the farm handlers leading
several mares and their foals to the outdoor arena and letting the
foals play while the m.c talks about the farm and the Lippizan breed.
The next presentation is of a team of Lippizans (mares?, stallions?)
pulling an antique carriage to show the versitility of the breed. The
next sections of the program start with the young horses doing training
level equivelant tests and progressing to one of the higher level tests
(sorry don't remember which one). Some of the horse are worked in
hand and I think they include a quadrille at some point in the
afternoon. In case of bad weather, the program is moved to the indoor
arena. After the rides are over, the barns are opened to the public and
you can walk through and see all of the stallions and talk to the riders.

I believe tickets to the afternoon shows are availabel through either
Ticketron or Ticketmaster and at the gate.
