885.0. "My Muddy Buddy" by MED::D_SMITH () Fri Mar 17 1989 14:21

     Now that spring is here (and so is the mud), I can finally
     start riding daily. Jasper seems to know exactly when
     I'm about to show up to because he will completely cover
     himself in mud, making for an exceptionally messy finish
     to my day... are we having fun yet?

     Can't wait for warm/dry weather so I can hose instead of brush.

     Anyone else enjoying spring as much as Jasper?

    There's a rumor around here that my horses are all anglo-hampshires
    (as in pig breed). The no longer roll - they wallow. And love
    every blessed minute of it.

    Spring has definitely sprung.

    Cricket has sure found the deepest mud in the pasture, she makes
    sure both sides are coated evenly then allowed to dry to a semblance
    of armour plating. Anyone got a spare set of arms? she's wearing
    mine out tryng to get it off again. Thank god Moonshine and Summer
    prefer to roll where there is grass, I couldn't keep up with 3
    mudballs! Yea!!Spring!!

885.3manure & mud a favorite!FRAGLE::PELUSOFri Mar 17 1989 18:1813
    JJ (alias pigpen), my palomino gelding, loves mud, espicially a
    mud/manure mixture. Whenever we come back from riding, we 'have'
    to cool down in his paddock...this way as he passes his 'spot'
    he can roll and roll and roll.....In fact, the people who own
    the place have never seen such a dirty horse..... (and they own
    a white mare...who is always white!).

    RE: .2

    I learnt a trick to help keep the mud armour away....I spray/rub
    show sheen into his coat. It really has to be rubbed in (I usually
    rub the hair the wrong way, spray it on and rub in a circular motion)
    The dirt comes off much easier!

    My mare doesn't really like to roll in the mud but she likes to
    stand in the middle of mud puddles and paw and paw and paw (alternating
    paws) all of that sweet mud and water up onto her belly and tail
    and legs and whatever. It's a riot to watch cause she hates walking
    through water normally!
