739.0. "AM I THE ONE AND LONELY?" by MED::D_SMITH () Tue Oct 04 1988 11:08

    I've spent pretty much the whole summer riding alone, hitting the
    trails daily and haven't met anyone else out there with horses.
    Almost looks like everyone traded them in for dirt bikes, who knows.

    Is there anyone who rides in the area, maybe even the same trails
    in Sudbury (Barton Farm Cons./Davis Farm Cons./Nobscot Hill/Lincoln
    Meadows), Stow (Main/NH RR track system/pipe line/Sudbury State
    Forest), Concord (White Pond/Waldon Pond, ESSCO's), Acton (Behind
    the Concord/Acton Industrial Park-RT62), Maynard (Behind Maynard
    Rod & Gun).

    There must be someone in the area using these trails! I can't be the only
    one who can still find miles of riding. AS a matter of fact, I found
    new trails yesterday that I'm going to hack through today (if the
    weather holds/and Jasper willingly crossed the Assabet River)).

    Last Sunday morning we road for approx. 20 miles, (left at 10am) from
    Sudbury through Stow, Hudson, Marlboro to the other side of Stow beside
    the Army Base, tied the horses, cooked bacon and eggs end ended
    the trip at 3pm. It was great... Next we try pancakes!!!

    IF there are other around the area, lets get together for a ride...

    Dave,

    Would you know of someplace in the Sudbury/Stow area to rent a horse
    for trail rides? I don't have a horse but I have ridden Western
    and English for several years now and I would love to use these
    trails that you spoke of in .0.

739.2Riding alone, Blah!BOEHM::SCHLENERTue Oct 04 1988 19:0618
    I know how you feel about riding alone. Until this summer (when more
    women started to lease horses at my barn) I would take my horse,
    Jasper, (yes, another Jasper) out by myself.
    I was concerned just in case something happened to me or my horse but
    if I waited to find a companion to go out on trail .........- I'd still
    be waiting. About the only thing I do when I ride by myself for any
    great length of time , more than 2 hours, is to inform people
    approximately where I'm going and for how long.

    Now that there are more people to go riding with, I tend to enjoy it
    more, especially when we get to all the jumps we've set up out on
    trail. When you ride along, you always have in the back of your mind,
    what if......

    re .0 Hope you find other people to ride with! Enjoy the fall before
    hunting seaon starts.

    	I currently ride in the Littleton conservation land and cross
    over to harvard and Ayer and I also do trail rides with
    the Harvard Horse assoc.

    	I have lived in Littleton all my life but really find it hard
    to find some interesting trails. My horse is great on the road but
    would love to find some new trails.

    Glad to know there is some one else out there with me.

739.4Whatch those hunters/or should they whatch you! DOC::D_SMITHWed Oct 05 1988 10:496

    RE:2

      Toooooo late. Hunting season started and last weekend I had a
      heck of a time getting Jasper by a sand bit full of people
      hunting bottles. What a sport. Those bottles don't stand a chance!
739.5Any Concordites around?SALEM::DOUGLASFri Oct 07 1988 10:4917
    Hi Dave,

    Yeah, I know what you mean! Is there anyone out there that lives
    in the West Concord N.H. area? My neighborhood has several horses
    but I've yet to meet up with any riders yet.

    I have a horse and a rather large pony if there are any experienced
    riders out there that would like to ride with me but don't have
    their own horse.

    Good luck in your search Dave, sounds like you have great trails
    around your area.

739.6Looking for trail riding companionsASABET::BABBITThu Jul 02 1992 19:2226
    Hi,
    My name is Judi Babbit and I have just found the notes files on
    equitation. I am not real sure on how to use them yet. I have recently
    moved to Groton MA. My sister has bought an old farm house with eight
    acres of land. I have always loved horses and I have owned a couple of
    horses in the past. I have never had any lessons, I have been riding
    for over ten years for fun. I have boarded my horses in the small barns
    in the Chelmsford/Westford area. When my sister bought the farm I decided to
    move in and get another horse. I was given a 1/2 morgan and 1/2 standard
    bred cross in April. Rusty is about 15 and 14.2 hands. He is very sweet
    and gentle. I was looking for people in the Groton area to ride with.
    I ride western and trails. Although he Rusty has beeen ridden and shown
    Engligh before. There are some great trails in the Groton, Mass area.
    I am also looking for someone else to help me ride and care for my horse.
    Since I am working and also in school for one more year, I do not get to
    ride as much as I would like. My horse is starting to get board and is
    chewing on the fence so I am looking for some help in entertaining him.
    This is the only bad habit Rusty has. He picked it up from my girlfriend
    horse when we spent a week at her house. I may also be interested in
    getting Rusty a companion. Does anyone know of anyplace that rents out
    trailers? I have a camp in the white mountains and I am interested in
    taking Rusty with me for my vacation in August, if I can find a trailer.
    Please call or write to me if anyone is interested in riding or knows of
    any companiions for my pal. My node is ASABET::BABBIT.

739.7Little Horse Owners (and Groton and...)TLE::DINGEEThis isn't a rehearsal, you know.Thu Jul 09 1992 16:4717
    Hi, Judi - if you want to get to know the trails and horseowners
    in the area, I suggest you contact the Littleton Horse Owners
    club. Probably Ann Lawrence in Littleton, Judy Lorimer in Pepperell,
    or Gail Greenlaw in Groton. I don't know their street addresses
    or phone numbers, but at least one of them ought to be listed.

    The club has a lot of people with many different interests. They
    meet once a week and have people in to do talks, or do other things.
    But most of all they do lots of trail riding, and organize and attend
    lots of pleasure trail rides. Most of them keep their own horses
    at their own homes, and I know I learned a lot from hanging out
    with them!

    I haven't seen them for a while, but tell them Julie said Hi!
