622.0. "History repeats - SHO DTSS LOCAL SERVER problem" by GIDDAY::REID (David Reid,CSC,Sydney DTN 730-7233) Tue Apr 15 1997 03:17

Greetings,

Customer running DECnet/OSI V6.3 ECO6 on a Vax could not work out why
following occurs - where on other systems (not ECO6) it works

NCL>sho dtss local server *
%NCL-E-INVALIDCOMMAND, unrecognized command

I have confirmed that on other ECO versions of 6.3 it does still work.

The really interesting bit is that on the ECO6 node

NCL>sho dtss decnet local server * now works.....but is not recognised on other
versions.

Now reference Note 357 in this conference and we come full circle??!!

David,

I don't understand the point that you are trying to make...

As far as I understand it, DECnet/OSI on VMS has been incorrect for a number
of years. The DTSS architecture was changed to include "DECNET" or "DCE" in
the SHOW ? SERVER commands, and this was implemented on UNIX and in the
DECnis NCL$GLOBALSECTION, but not in DECnet/OSI for VMS. The point about
the DECnis kits was particularly confusing, as the NCL syntax changed when
you installed a DECnis kit onto a VMS system...

I believe that DECnet-Plus V7.1 corrects this problem for VMS systems.

I would be very surprised if V6.3-6 fixes this problem. I have just checked
the size of the ECO-6 .PCSI file and it does not look large enough to
contain a new NCL$GLOBALSECTION.DAT, and on my system (V6.3-6) the date of
the NCL$GLOBALSECTION.DAT is too old to be ECO-6 ... I suspect that you have
the DECnis kit installed!

Regards,
