1430.0. "DECdns and NTP" by TAEC::PRAUD () Tue Feb 25 1997 08:28

Hello,

Context : Digital UNIX V3.2C
	  DECnet 3.2A

The DECdns documentation states that DECdts and DECdns actually depend on
each other. DECdts uses DECdns as a networkwide registry for global time
servers that synchronize system clocks in the network.

In the DECdts documentation, they explain how to interoperate NTP and
DECdts.

Nowwhere it is explained that you can use NTP instead DECdts excepted
for DECnet-ULTRIX systems previous to Version 5.0 may use the Internet
Network Time Protocol (NTP) for time synchronization because DECdts
was not available.

Question : Can we use NTP instead DECdts ?

Regards,
Charles.

1430.1Must use DTSS - can "bridge" to NTPBULEAN::OLSONTue Feb 25 1997 13:338

    The answer is no, DECnet does not have the ability to use NTP in
    place of DTSS. What can be done on Unix systems is to run NTP and
    DTSS and "connect" the two using the sample ntp provide routine
    that comes with the DTSS kit.
