200.51 | Existing MS Internet Explorer V3? | TAEC::SMITH | Martin Smith, Valbonne. - 828 5128 | Fri Feb 07 1997 10:11 | 5 |
| I know that CS V3 contains Internet Explorer V3. What does the
installation do if IE V3 already exists on the PC? Does it overwrite
everything, or just hook into it, or ???
Martin.
|
200.52 | | QUARK::LIONEL | Free advice is worth every cent | Fri Feb 07 1997 14:12 | 4 |
| It overwrites it. But you can prevent it from doing so by clicking that you
"don't agree" to the IE license.

200.53 | I'm glad I asked! | TAEC::SMITH | Martin Smith, Valbonne. - 828 5128 | Fri Feb 07 1997 15:48 | 6 |
| Thanks Steve,
I now know that if my version of IE (from MS) is a later version than
the CompuServe version, I need to install the CS version first.
Martin.

| If you don't install IE3 when CS V3 installs, IE3 does not seem to work
properly with CS3 - it doesn't embed itself as an object in the CS3
windows.

| The way it seems to work for me is that if you've installed CS3 with IE
once, you can install later versions and decline the IE installation. I'll
ask about this, though. I do note that if you let CS3 install IE, you lose
mail/news through IE.
CS 3.0.2 is coming out soon, and it includes the latest IE - but not the
mail/news addins.

| The CS3 support people tell me that as long as you have IE3.01 (build 1215)
or later, you can "decline" the MSIE license agreement and everything will
continue to work fine.

| I've heard further that even if you do let CS3 install MSIE, it doesn't
disturb anything, though I'm not entirely convinced of that.

| Re: .58 Not correct. I declined the installation but IE did not embed
itself inside CS3. I had to allow IE to install before that worked.

| Do I understand that if a higher version of IE already exists, then
one should install CS3, then reinstall IE?
Martin.
|
200.63 | | QUARK::LIONEL | Free advice is worth every cent | Fri Feb 14 1997 15:01 | 6 |
| I think that once you have installed CS3 with MSIE once, you can decline
future MSIE installations. So if you haven't installed it before, install
with MSIE and then reinstall your later MSIE version. CS3.0.2 will be
shipping soon and it includes the latest MSIE build (1215).

200.64 | V3 update fixes most of my bugs | DREGS::BLICKSTEIN | The moment is a masterpiece | Wed Mar 19 1997 13:37 | 16 |
| I installed an update to V3 and I must say that generally speaking,
things "work" now. It seems to have solved at least two of my
problems:
1) Send/receive all mail now seems to work
2) I haven't got any hangs during log since I installed the
update a few weeks ago.
However, I would still say DO NOT INSTALL V3 unless you're using
CSERVE to cruise the internet (more than just mail and forums) because
it still is SIGNIFICANTLY and AGGRAVATINGLY slower than V2.
I would DEFINITELY go back to V2 if there was a way to do that doesn't
lose all the mail I've processed since installing V3 (there isn't).

| I still say that anyone who uses mail and forums heavily on CompuServe should
be using an off-line navigator such as NavCIS PRO. It makes your work SO
much more efficient and effortless.

and the compuserve gateway.Anyone done this?

| A guess, but I think you'd have to edit the properties in the dial-up
icon rather than anything from CSi V3 itself.
It's probably under something like "connection type".
