I just received some information from the archivist of the NCA.

According to their files there was a PTC 69 carousel at Old Orchard
Beach, moved there from Palisades Park in 1946. They have no
photos of it, and do not know what eventually became of it.
I have also previously asked the OOB Historical Society about this
and they have no information.

Also, according to the NCA, PTC 19 has already been removed, but it
is unknown who bought it or where it will end up.

251.17It must stay intact!KELVIN::SIGELCounting Blue CarsThu Feb 20 1997 14:3812
    Hi Alan,

I did not see any media coverage about PTC#19 being sold. I do remember
seeing a couple of news updates on Paragons carousel and in 1985 seen
the auction coverage and the place was pretty mobbed with people and
    photographers.

I hope we hear something positive about it really soon. It will be sad
to see another one of a kind carousel broken up that was in perfect
condition and meant to be ridden for many years to come.

    Lynne:-)

Doesn't sound good, another PTC carousel may be lost...

Got this message from someone in Maine.

"Got some news on PTC#19. It is being packed up as of wed 3/27 and sold
at auction. Don't know exactly when or where but have a brief article
from a local newspaper about it."

These horses aren't the best examples of carving, so maybe that might
keep the carousel intact? I think the carousel has more historic value
in that it has been around since 1910, at two different amusement parks.

    Alan,

Hopefully it will be sold intact, since the antique carousels are
    becoming so rare.

It will be really sad if it is broken up for collectors.

I have my fingers crossed that it will be saved, like when Nunleys
Amusements tryed to auction of their S&G the entire town banned
    together to save it.

The May issue of Carousel News and Trader gives an update on PTC 19 carousel,
formerly at Old Orchard Beach, Maine.

The frame is currently in storage in Portland, Maine.

Norton will hold an auction in Ohio on July 19.

First the individual figures will be auctioned. Then they will add 10%
on to the total and try to auction off the whole thing intact.
(Why the adding on of 10%? I suppose there is a reason? - but this doesn't
seem to support the effort to keep carousels intact.)

    hi Alan,

Cross your fingers that it will be saved.

It will be sad to see another classic PTC broken up.

The latest Carousel New and Trader has a couple of articles about
PTC 19, and its upcoming auction in July.

Norton is offering a color brochure for $10. (517) 279-9063.

I was recently at Old Orchard Beach and they now have a new Chance carousel
running in the carousel building, but you just can't compare it to the fine
carousel that has just been lost.

I also dropped in briefly at Fun Town USA in Saco, which is a nicely kept up
small amusement park, that shows a lot of promise. They have a very
old small Theel merry go round, which I want to find out more about.

Their park map indicates an area where they plan to
build a "major" wooden coaster in the future! I don't think Maine
has had one since the 1940's.
