518.0. "ROLLER RACES AT BICYCLE ALLEY" by CHEAPR::NORTON () Thu Jan 14 1988 11:53

Bicycle Alley in Worcester, home of the Worcester Road Club, has
expressed an interest in starting roller races on a weekly basis
at the store. But there's been a serious lack of interest. (They're
calling them roller races, but they'll actually be using wind trainers,
so you don't have to worry about riding through their walls.)

Seems to me it would be a lot more fun to do this as a group rather
than alone at home. Anything that makes indoor training fun is
probably worth the trip to Worcester!

    Would anybody be interested?

I think you have identified the problem and its solution. The
serious lack of interest (lack of serious interest ?) is probably
*DUE TO* the fact that these are not roller races. I for one might
be interested, if they were real. CdH, where are you ?
How about a roller and a wind trainer category ?

I believe that Paul Randazzo runs roller races (on a Kreitler
with the resistance blower attached) at his shop in Tyngsboro.
Since I live on the south shore, I haven't bothered to show up,
but I am willing to spread the rumor. The regular crowd sounds
    like a truly hard-core bunch.
The moral of the story may be that it is possible to generate
interest in this sort of event. You end up with a racing-oriented
crowd, though. Rollers are an accessory of racing hipness, along
with "Give me Campy or Give me Death", sew-ups, and helmet aversion.

There used to be roller races in Cambridge and at Frank's Spoke and
Wheel in Framingham. Does anyone know if these are still running
(last I knew Frank stopped his), or where one can go today for
    	roller races???
