2742.0. "Bicycling while Pregnant" by ALFA2::PEASLEE () Mon Mar 28 1994 14:56

I am interested in comments regarding bicycling while pregnant.
In general, how much did you exert yourself and when you started
getting bigger, did you have a difficult time maintaining your
    balance?
I want to continue for as long as possible. Yes, I talked to
my OB/GYN and was told it was ok to continue for as long as I
    am comfortable.
I'd appreciate any comments from those that have gone through this.

    Thanks,
    Nancy

Greetings all,

Congrats on the baby. My wife and I bought her bike when she was 37 months
pregnant. You have probably heard the story of the famous woman racer (Connie
Young??) who rode to the hospital to give birth?

This has 0 to do with pregnancy etc. But while I'm much too lazy to look up
a more appropriate note so here goes. I was at a bike ride the other day
(Icicle Century in Newark DE.) and of course in my usual totally disorganized
life I needed to get my bike shorts on. I expected to use the porta-potty. So
with the help of a black cloud I noticed a line that was easily 20 people
waiting for the pot. THE PORTA-POTTY! So I went to my car and changed pants
in the car. At least I was able to avoid honking the horn while I was sans-pants
no small victory. Anywho there was a woman in a near by car that I noticed
applying blush. I figured NOONE would ever put make-up on when they were
going to ride a bike all day? Wrong, she was heading out on the ride. I could
almost believe lipstick can have a value because it could protect the lips
from the sun, but rouge? Don't our cheeks get enough wind?

Now, had you been changing outside the car, I could understand the blush....

The famous woman cyclist who rode to the hospital, etc, was Miji Reoch,

I haven't found the info I was looking for but I recall some advice,
perhaps it was in Bicycling, that the pregnant mother should
endeavor to keep her heart rate below 70% of max. I don't recall
which trimesters were regarded as most important, most likely the 3rd,
    perhaps the 2nd.

Now is a good time to find some real deals on heart monitors. Since I
have more monitors than hearts I haven't looked at the deals any more
than to raise an eyebrow but I've seen new Accurex's for under $100.

37 MONTHS??? Oh my God, I hope I don't deliver THAT late!
This is a good excuse (er...reason) to buy a heart monitor.

    Thanks for the comments.
