2746.0. "Looking for good bike shop" by ZACHEO::COLBATH () Wed Apr 06 1994 12:31

My wife and I are looking for a good place to buy 2 couple of bikes.
We currently have 2 ten speeds that are about 8-10 years old.
I live in the Northboro Ma. area.

I have talked with a couple of people that said MT bikes are the way to go.

Any one know of good bikes shop in this area and other info that may be helpful?

	thanks

I have no info on shops in the Northboro MA region, but on the 'other info'
subject, I'm curious about the recommendation to mountain bikes. If you plan
on riding trails much/most of the time, this makes sense to me. But not knowing
the purpose of the bike, I'm afraid that the recommendation may have been made
in a vacuum. If you end up riding roads most/all of the time, I think you'd
ultimately be unhappy with a mountain bike.

Try Marlborough Bicycle on Rt 20 in Marlborough - 508-485-0663.

They have road/mountain/hybrids in stock for you to test ride and the
    owner is a cycling enthusiast.

If you don't mind a little further drive, I've had consistently good
service (pre- and post-) from Belmont Wheel Works on Trapelo Road in
    Belmont, Mass.

    Their phone number is (617)489-3577.

A couple of other recommendations are Landries in Westboro and Bicycle
Alley in Worcester. I would stay away from O'neil's in Worcester
anyway. Also as far as where and what type of riding you are going to
be doing you might consider a Hybrid bike, it's basically a cross
between a mountain and a road bike.

Bicycle Alley is now owned by Milford Bicycle. Who also owns Franklin
Bicycle. I have had only good experiences at Franklin & Milford.

Yeah, I had to stop going to Bicycle Alley once Sarah went to Milford.

I live in Northboro as well. Over the years I bought a bike for my wife
at Fritz's Bike Shop in Worcester, a bike for my son at O'Neil's
which is also in Worcester, and a bike for myself at Landry's in
Framingham before they opened a Westboro store. I have been happy with
the service from each of these shops and I'm sure you would do well
    there as well.

However, last year I bought a bike at Trek Stop in Grafton and got
truly exceptional service. It will take a few minutes more to get
there, but I believe it's worth the extra effort.

EPI Cycle on RT 1 N. Attleboro Ma. has a pretty nice line up of Mtn.
Bikes or road bikes if you want to trek out that far. Prices are about
the same but they carry a large selection of gear and ware. Every time
I go in the shop I end up walking out with something. Good luck...

Diddo on the Epicycle Center in N.Attleboro. EXcellent shop! I do
most of my shopping there because their prices (in many cases) are the
same as in the mags. They always have a large selection and lots of
sales. I just bought a new helmet but did some shopping around first.
This OTHER shop wanted $60, but said they would sell it to me for $50
(what a deal). I went to Epicycle and bought it for $40.

P.S. - I'm not doing any special plugging for anyone. I just always
    have good luck there.
