2357.0. "CENTURY ANYONE???" by WMOIS::GIROUARD_C () Thu Jul 16 1992 16:08

     Just thought I'd enter this for anyone who might be interested:

     I'm asking around for folks who might be interested in doing a
    century from the Westminster plant, through NH and back.

     Two dates I have already forwarded to my personal distribution list
    are: 8/21 and 8/28 (both are Fridays).

     The ride tempo would be dictated by the number of folks and the
    profile of the ability levels of participants.

     Bottom line is that no one would be left alone. Everyone gets back
    together at a stop approximately 55 miles into the ride.

     Everyone is welcome!

     Please choose the best date (or preferrably if both are good let me
    know).

     Notify me through mail directly:

                         MAIL NODE:  WMOIS::GIROUARD_C

                                A1:  CHIP GIROUARD@WMO

        Regards,

                 Chip

     P.S. Since participation decisions almost always depend on who is
          going and (or) how many, please send me mail ONLY if you are
          committing to go.

          I will update this note regularly...

2357.1CENTURY ROLL CALLWMOIS::GIROUARD_CTue Jul 21 1992 10:5929
     Time for a roll call:

     As of 7/21 at 6:50am the response so far is...

     Name Plant of Origin Dates Preferable
    __________________________________________________________

    Chip Girouard      Westminster                 BOTH

    Doug Beauregard    Westminster                 BOTH

    Hugh McGinness     Westminster                 8/28

    Jamie Ide          Hudson(?)                   BOTH

    Kathy Adams           (?)                      BOTH

    Roland Ouellette      (?)                      BOTH

    It appears that the ability of this field is around 17mph (minus the
    wheel-suck phenomenon). I'll try and finalize the date by July 30. I
    think it would be best for folks to make arrangements for the vacation
    day. I will also provide route details along with times, etc... for
    planning purposes as we get closer to the DATE!

    I will continue to update as names come in.

     The ninth person has signed in -- Eric Frere and welcome aboard!

     Just a noteworthy piece of information... Eric owns a Merlin too!
    So this may be the only chance in your lives to see so much Ti in
    one place at one time!

    Or, as you come into Hunstville Al from the west on the interstate,
    there's a big (and rather imposing) hunk of Ti sitting just off the road.
2357.6...NEVER ASSUME...CTHQ1::JENIN::FREREEllas Danzan SolasFri Jul 24 1992 13:448
Hey Chip,

Did I say that I was riding the Merlin?? I'd be happy to do the ride on the
Marinoni tandem if I can find somebody crazy enough to be my stoker.

Of course, this may just increase the pace of the ride. Right, John C.?

2357.8Who said drop??CTHQ1::JENIN::FREREEllas Danzan SolasFri Jul 24 1992 14:578
Hey John,

All I said was pick up the pace. Plus, I assume that a few would want to draft
behind the tandem.

Hope to see you on Wed.

Eric
2357.9THE DATE IS...WMOIS::GIROUARD_CFri Jul 24 1992 16:0712
    Well, more people can make the 21st that the 28th so...

      THE 21ST IS THE DAY!

    Sign-ups are still open... Maybe we can configure an "A" flite and "B"
    group epending on the levels and numbers (naturally).

    Also, how does an "after ride" get together for a beer/glass of wine
    sound afterwards at The Days INN???

2357.12DUH, DARNED IF I KNOWWMOIS::GIROUARD_CWed Jul 29 1992 17:103
     I think it turns into Rte 31 somewhere... But you don't.

2357.13:-)NOVA::FISHERRdb/VMS DinosaurWed Jul 29 1992 17:268
    Yeah, I figured that out actually. Up around Ashby, 119 turns
    left then right to continue eastward through Willard Brook
    State Park, while at that point 31 goes straight and left.

    It's the kind of turn where someone who gets carried away with going
    really fast downhill will miss the turn and think that 119 becomes 31.

2357.14A NEW HEADING PLEASE, MR. SULUWMOIS::GIROUARD_CThu Jul 30 1992 11:0816
     Norm's suggestion about "mutating" the course a little is fine with
    me. Of course, this makes him the point man now...

     So, referring back to my original course entry, please note:

     o After picking up Rte. 12 take a left onto Rte. 119 into
       Winchester, NH

     o Then a right onto Rte. 10 into Keene, NH

     o Then a right onto Rte. 101 east (follow original course).

     Norm tells me in the olden' days he used to do this witgh the
    Fitchburg Cycling Club. Hey, I'm a notalgia fan :-)...

    Chip,

    A couple of us NUOers are considering joining the party. If so I'll
    hand deliver a teeny tiny piece of that precious metal! Give me a Ti
    wishlist...my Dad may well start producing Ti goodies!

2357.16GREAT TO HAVE YOUWMOIS::GIROUARD_CThu Jul 30 1992 16:0910
     Great to have you!

     Re; Ti goodies are tough to get for Campy replcement stuff. Shimano/
         Suntour seems easier.

     The wish list would go... Handlebars, entire brakeset, all
    bolts/screws, headset, crankarm bolts, skewers, axles, both
    derailleurs...

2357.17DIRECTIONS TO WMO (from the east)WMOIS::GIROUARD_CWed Aug 19 1992 10:4230
     Here's how to getting to the starting point:

     Travelling west (from the Boston side);

     - Take Rte. 2 west (WMO is about 45 miles west of Boston)

     - Take the second Westminster exit (which is also the Rte. 140
                                         exit)

       You'll know you're on the right track because the WMO plant will be
       on your right. The exit is right after the plant (200-300yds.)

     - Down the ramp you'll come to a set of traffic lights (200 yds)

     - Take a right just before the lights (there's the usual right
       built into the intersection so you don't have to wait for the
       light for a right turn.

     - Now you're on Digital Drive and heading toward the plant. Digital
       Drive is a little over a 1/4 mile long. The first parking lot
       is the west parking lot. Take an immediate right as you come to it.
       We'll congregate in the back part. I'll get there a little early.
       I'll be sitting in the red Ford Ranger pick-up with a white cap.

    BTW, I talked to Norm Flye and he may show up!

     If someone needs directions coming from the west just enter a reply
     here.

     Well... We did it. It came to exactly 101.00 miles on Cateye.

     Attendees: Kathy Adams Norm LaFleur Marian (?)
                Chip Girouard Roland Ouellette

     Absent: Jamie Ide Tom Deloriea Eric Frere
                Doug Beauregard

     The ride was great and the route was very pretty (very rural NH).

     I promised I'd embarrass the folks who didn't show up... But you
    know who you are :-)

     Kudos to Roland who has only 600 miles in this year!

     Kudos to Kathy Adams who had an injured achilles tendon and hadn't
     been on her bike for two weeks.

     I pulled in with Kathy and Roland averaging 14mph.

I missed it.

Work is my excuse.

Just too busy.

And I thought I'd find time this year to ride and work on the golf game.

Ya, right!
