2468.0. "Looking for BICYCLING 1991 artilce" by LJOHUB::CRITZ () Wed Dec 02 1992 16:38

Back in 1991, BICYCLING had an issue that dealt with cycling
equipment for large riders. I saved the issue but now I can't
locate it. I want to buy some new shorts, so I need the info in
    	that issue.

The cover had a cyclist on the front, facing you as you look at
the cover. He was large (like me), muscular (like me [not]), and
    	handsome (see previous) 8-)>.

If you have the issue and could copy the 5 or 6 pages dealing with
manufacturers etc., I would be very greatful.

    Speaking of large sizes ....

    I have a friend with size 15 feet (he's 6'6", 260lbs); he just bought a
nice mountain bike and would like SPD. Problem is that he can't find
anyone that makes size 15 SPD compatible shoes!

    Any ideas?

(sorry to intrude on the note Scott, but I saw an opening & went for
    it!)

    	Mark,

No problem. If I don't get any help here I'll just call
Rodale and have them send me another copy of the issue
    	I want.

I can't say for sure, but I'll bet the issue I'm looking
for has shoes in his size.

As I said, I'll call Rodale if I don't find any help here.
If I find something applicable to your friend, I'll let you
    	know.

I know I have the issue. I'll give it to my wife who works in LJO.

I believe you have met her, Carole Greenfield.

    	Tom,

Yes, I've met Carole. We've talked some about cycling. It
took me a while to connect the two of you, but I've now
    	made the connection, so...

    	Thanks,

Carole and Tom had the article (notice I spelled article
correctly this time) I wanted. I've copied it and am
    	very appreciative.

    Scott,

Any info on size 15 shoes that might be SPD compatible? (or is 1991
    too early?)

2468.13LJOHUB::CRITZWed Dec 09 1992 16:3312
    	Mark,

Sorry, I forgot about your query.

I don't have the info at work with me today, but I vaguely
remember that size 14 (50) was the largest I saw. However,
    	I just glanced at it.

I'll bring the info in tomorrow and reply with the info in
    	hand.

    	Mark,

The largest shoes in the table (in the BICYCLING article) are
14 (50). They are Vittoria shoes.

Article says: "For your nearest dealer, contact:"

2468.16Recent magazine mentioned custom shoesDECWET::BINGHAMJohn BinghamFri Dec 11 1992 16:463
A custom shoe where you send in a tracing of your foot is available from a
company that I think is in San Diego. Look and Speedplay mountings are
options for cleats. I don't remember the company name.

The VeloNews article says on page 72 says:

SPORTLAB's Don Lamson (formerly of DONI) now offers
custom road or triathlon shoes; the customer sends
in foot tracings and two measurements with the order.
Lamson offers two soles: one with standard three-hole
drilling, and the other, special sole meant for the
SPEEDPLAY road pedal. This sole eliminates the need
for the first cleat layer, and brings the foot very
    		close to the spindle.

I could not find an address.
