3137.0. "Littleton Area Singletrack/home wanted" by MKOTS3::tcc050.mko.dec.com::larson () Tue Aug 20 1996 16:04

hi,

My job has been relocated to Littleton, Ma (TAY).

I currently live in Goffstown, NH and I am considering moving to Mass
(within 20 miles of TAY so I can bike commute).

Being an avid MTBer, I have created and maintained a nice network of
trails. Mostly old jeep trails up hill, and technical singletrack
downhill. The nastier, the better. I am looking for input as to where I
should look for housing/singletrack in the Littleton area.

I have traveled rt 119, I like Groton and have riden once at the state
forest there. Any input on other areas (preferably state
park/watershed areas/town forrest) would be a great help.

thanx,
Mike

    Littleton has town forests spread around with nice riding, but
    not too much in the way of adandoned RRs, underground gas lines,
    overhead power lines, or aquaducts (i.e. things that go anywhere).
    Riding *into* Littleton from the south (where TAY is anyhow) is
    probably the preferred direction... with NEC pulling out of
    Boxboro I bet there's going to be some nice homes cheap down
    there too. There's not a helluva lot of backroad selection into
    Littleton from the northwest/north/northeast/east.

    Keep in mind the population density in Littleton is probably a lot
    higher than where you're at now... i.e. forget the jeep trails.

    In particular, note # 12 in QUINCE::MTB lists a few good places to ride
    near Littleton.

    In terms of housing, I've lived in Concord and Acton, and found them
    both to be good, quiet places to live and ride.

    	I like the TOPHET Chasm at OAK Hill. It's right off of 110.

    The place isn't that big but packs A LOT of variety into about
    4 or 5 sqare miles. Big hill, technical single track, screaming
    downhills, nice vistas, occasional deer, of course there's the
    chasm itself! That'll give you white knuckles.
3137.5Night rides in October?MKOTS3::tcc050.mko.dec.com::larsonTue Aug 27 1996 21:036
Thanx for the input. More is certainly welcome. I live in NH, so I plan
to ride after work a few days a week. If anyone is interested in hooking
up, I'm game. I have a Nightsun, so darkness is not a problem, as I won't
be in the area until Mid October.
