3132.0. "MAVIC Rim questions" by ROCK::PRESTON (Dirty Logic Motto -- Issue Early, Issue Often) Mon Jul 29 1996 21:05

My 4 year old TREK MATRIX rim has developed three cracks in the side wall.
Since the hub has ~6K miles on it, I guess it's time for a whole new wheel.

I'm looking at Mavic Reflex (S.U.P., U.B.) versus MA40s. The Reflex looks like
it has a bit hiher profile and has all of Mavic's alphabet soup of techno
wizardtry in it's name.

Any thoughts?

The price difference is small (~$8 bucks), so I'd be inclined to spend the
extra for the better rim. It's also supposedly lighter which leads to my
downside worry on the Relfex's reliability given that I just cracked my existing
rim.

thats a puppy. If your killing a rim and hub with only 6K you better go
after some high end stuff. I'm not sure what to recommend because most
of my middle of the road stuff (mix bag of everything so dont ask)
lasts at least 20K miles ... but I dont race and weigh less than 150lbs
(at least before the wild blueberry pie season up here in NH :-)

It ain't the pie Larry, it's the Ben & Jerry's you put on top ;-)

    Ron,

I have never ridden the reflex rims,I have 10k on a set of MA40's and
they have to be the toughest training wheels I've ever had.
But I have seen the the reflex's to and they look pritty cool.
I'd just thought I woud put my 2 cents in.

Mavic's are about the strongest thing out there for a quality rim. I have them
on both my road and mountain bikes and there excellant

My best guess is the reflex is the standard high end rim for MAVIC.
Rumors were they were trying to reduce the number of rims they offer.

Another rim made my MAVIC that is standard on many high end tandems is
MOD 3CD. If you want something heavier duty, this could be it. I'm
not sure what drilling they come in, probably 36, 40, 48.
