3043.0. "Long distance events" by MLNORO::COLOMBO () Wed Jan 24 1996 09:58

I'd like to run next Paris-Brest-Paris in 1999 (if it's every 4 years)!

Do we know how can I contact to receive infos regarding prerequisites
(previous mandatory brevets ?), joining instructions (it's too early,
but ...), log of the '95 edition, course description, ecc.

... also it's time for me to prepare to the the event (in 95 I was on
bike only for 6000 km, only MTB, but I was deeply involved in other
stuff like 2 marathons (my best time is 2h 54'), and so on); so I
appreciate any suggestion about "Long distance bike training".

    Thanks in advance

    Ciao
    Roberto Colombo (COLOMBORO @MLN)

I think you can still contact Charlie Lamb, who put on the
  first few Boston-Montreal-Boston randonnees.

I've ridden BMB several times, but unfortunately I've missed
PBP (even though I'm in Paris at the moment.) Still, there's
tons of bicycling events going on in this country (it's a national
sport, after all) so I don't feel quite as bad about missing it
  last year.

If they still put on BMB each year, I'd consider participating
to get the feel of a 1200 km event. In my experience, when you
can do back to back double centuries (over a weekend, for example)
in good form, then it's mostly "mental" to finish the long ride.

  Also, there are a lot of other ultramarathon events to choose from;
if someone else has the address or email address for UMCA they should
  post it.

Yes, PBP should be run again in 1999; it is on a 4 year schedule.
Generally the requirements have been you complete a 200K, 300K, 400K
and 600K brevet in the year of the ride that you desire to participate
in. Americans have had extra requirements for the past two occurances
because of previous bad completion percentages. This may change for
1999 as there is a new U.S. director for International Randoneurs.

You might want to consider subscribing to the Ultra Cycling Marathon
Associations' mailing list. To do this send mail to
    	majordomo@cycling.org
    and put
    	subscribe ultra
in the body of the message. You'll be added to the mailing list and
receive all sorts of mail about long distance cycling. Most is U.S.
    based.

Ultra Cycling Magazine Vol4#6 has a couple of articles about this
year's PBP. Contact Nick Gerlich about the possibility of getting a
    copy at:

    email: gerlich@wtamu-cob.wtamu.edu

Though BMB is probably out for the topic originator (if I read it right
he's in Italy), here's some info for the U.S. folks that might be
    interested:

    BMB: August 22-25 1996
    Qualification: 200K, 300K, 400K, & 600K brevets, BMB 94, or PBP 95.
Entry fee: $250 for full BMB
$125 for Jr. BMB (Boston-Middlebury-Boston, Quad centuries)
$100 for BBB (Boston-Brattleboro-Boston, twin centuries)
(above includes Shirt, Picnic, and waterbottle)

Jr. BMB and BBB are daytime only riding and do not require the full
    brevet series to qualify.
