re: why do people stoop so low?

you must be the only honest guy around. people are dishonest, man. get
used to it. the best you can do is be as honest as you can. if the boys
at fritz'z had called you a bimbo and kicked you outa the store you
probably would have thought they deserved to get ripped off. mebee the
goon who stole the bike was just such a person? who knows what lurks in
    the minds of men.

Gotta agree. I'm not sure exactly what Mr. Wilson was attempting
to say, but what he did say didn't sound good.

I didn't like the way the reply sounded either. I hope he didn't
mean it the way it came out.

Maybe you're reading too much [or not enough?] into the reply.

The key for me was "maybe this was such a person". Who knows
how others think, or how they rationalize their actions? Maybe
someone was pissed off, for whatever reason, and decided that
to even things off he'd steal a bike.

Nowhere did Chris say that he was OK with the situation. He
    	just tried to explain it.

ahhhh, so that's what he was trying to do. i didn't recognize it :-).

i hope your speculation in on, Shawn.

If all you intended to do was notify the populace that a bike
was stolen and that you wanted people to look out for it you
should have limited your entry to a description and last known
    	location.

IE, next time skip the editorial comments.

Of course, 4 unnecessary replies in a conference of 10,000
entries doesn't seem like too big a deal anyways.

3032.10Hey, Hey, Hey! A little sensitivity eh?ENQUE::MCGOWANTue Nov 14 1995 16:5016

Look, the guy was a little upset that a rather unique bicycle was
stolen from his friends. He felt that he had to tell us about this,
perhaps to remind us to be more careful, perhaps in case we see it
somewhere (unlikely though that may be), perhaps to reassure himself
that there are those who sympathise with him and his friends and do not
    condone theft, whatever the reason.

When you're friends bicycle is stolen do you want the thiefs
behaviour and motivation explained/defended to you? Do you
expect to be told just the bare details?

    No, I didn't think so.

    Ride.

Well, the base noter did ask why people stoop to such things. Perhaps it was
a rhetorical question, but it seems that other folks felt like sharing some
thoughts anyway. No harm done?
