2986.0. "Callahan State Park?" by REFINE::MCDONALD (shh!) Thu Jun 29 1995 12:05

    Any mtb'ers familiar with "Callahan State Park" in Marlboro. I was out
    at lunch yesterday scouting riding routes when I came across some guys
    gearing up for a ride. They claim there is "a large network of riding
    trails" in the park.

	Yup - ride there alot. There are many trails on the Marlboro side,
	most of them marked. The south side of the park has many marked and
	unmarked trails, but it's still easy to keep from getting lost if you
	have a trail map. Sometimes there are maps at the trailhead - or I
	can scan one in and mail it to you.

	The trails on the Marlboro side are typical New England - hills,
	rocks, and roots. Good technical riding. The trails on the south
	side are a bit wider and flatter - but there more walkers and horses

	Have fun,
	/ken

    I loved Callahan State Park. There's a great mix of single-track, easy
    paths that wind uphill and downhill through the woods, plus the usual
    rocks and roots. I agree that it's a great place.

	From the center of Marlboro, take Rte 20 East. Just after you
	pass the movie theater, take a right onto Farm road. Follow this
	road for about a mile (you'll pass the airport). Just after
	Trombetta's ice cream stand on the left, turn left onto Broadmeadow.
	Bear left at the fork, and follow the (bumpy) dirt road back to
	a parking area on the left.

	There is also a parking area on the Framingham side, but I don't
	really know how to get there. 8^)

	It's near Wayside Racquet Club... Dunno where the County Club is,
	though...

2986.7Callahan: BackpackerREFINE::MCDONALDshh!Mon Jul 17 1995 12:1323

    I took an (unexpectedly) long lunch of friday and rode "Backpacker"
    from the North Entrance out to Eastleigh Farm (yep, in that 100 degree
    heat).

    Single track: rocky climbs, a few sharp rocky descents, lots of rock,
    loads of fun.

    My ride could best be described as:

    	Hey, where the hell am I?

2986.8Directions to Callahan in FraminhamLJSRV2::chrisnb.ljo.dec.com::wraightTue Aug 29 1995 21:218
For the Framingham entrance, you need to get on Edgell Road N. The easiest way is to take Route 9 to Edgell Road
(also where Framingham State College is) towards Sudbury.

Go under the overpass (Mass Pike) and take your next left onto Edmands Rd. Go straight thru the stop sign, and
continue on for about a mile. Take your first right onto Millwood, and go up a little over a mile. You'll see the Millwood Golf
Course on your right, and the parking lot (dirt, small) for Callahan is on your left.

This is an 800 acre "jewel" in the heart of MetroWest.
