2934.0. "Hard shell travel cases to rent?" by XEDON::PORTER () Mon Apr 10 1995 17:16

Hello,

My fiance and I are going on a bike trip to Europe at the end of May. Does
anybody know where I can rent a couple hard shell travel cases in the Boston
or Worcestor area? Hers is a 23" hybrid, and mine is a 26" road bike.

Thanks, Steve

It would probably be cheaper, and just as good if you got a good bike
box and wrapped the entire bike with bubblewrap. Then, to make sure
they don't distroy the box, use some wood 2x4's in strategic locations
inside the box to insure it can't crush.

    Hi Steve,

I rented a hard case a couple years ago from a place in New
Hampshire - which isn't in the vicinity you'd like, but if you get
desperate I can look the place up for you. It was quite reasonable
    to rent one.

I took my bike to France in the hard case. I had to open it up at
customs so that they could make sure there were no bombs or anything
like that in there. As I recall that was only on the return trip out
    of France.

One thing I did want to mention is beware of traveling around with
it once you get there. It doesn't not fit in many vehicles. We ended
up finding this out the hard way when we tried to take a taxi. We
ended up renting a limo - put the cases in the middle section - the
doors had to be held sort of shut with bungees. The second time, we
were wiser and rented a minivan - which worked just fine.

You may have all this covered, but just in case....

     	Where are you going?

    	Have a great time!

2934.3I'm going to England and FranceXEDON::PORTERTue Apr 11 1995 16:1810
Hi Mary,

I have friends in southern England I just have to visit every now and then.
They happen to be part owners of a vacation house in France. So we are going
to rent that for about a week. The house is in some really small town about
50 miles west of St. Malo. Nearby is a larger town called Moncontour that
still has the medieval walls around it, where a terrific bakery is. Life is
so hard...

Hi Steve, How's it going?

You can borrow my bike bag if you want. It's not hard shelled but it's protected
my bike for me on numerous trips including trips to Europe.

Send me mail if you're interested.
