Time for the annual Best Products of 1994... pick your best
values for the buck from this year and let your fellow noters
in on it! Optional: your worst buys of 1994.
Myself, I didn't spend too much on bikes in '94. That oversight
will never happen again, I promise! A few of the nicer add-ons:
* Grip shifts; $70, great product. I probably shouldn't have
had as much fun ripping Shimano components off my bike to put
these on, but I did.
* REI Snowboard socks; $11, great deal, very warm; comes in
Purple or Grundge. Yes, Grundge.
* Campmor marine strobe light; $12, for the ultimate in be-seen
strategy. Not much heavier than the single "D" cell it takes.
Waterproof, visible for 3 miles. Obnoxious, and probably not
for everyday(night?) use, but a good insurance policy for
when driver's visibility is reduced because of fog or rain.

Some of the best: (MTB)
Winwood Technologies Poly-brakes; Polyurethane brake pads stop
great wet or dry - leave no black residue on your rims. $15/pr.
Roll-on Goretex shifting cables: set 'em up once with XT
thumbshifters and haven't had to tweak them yet; fully enclosed cables
keep the mud and grit out; shift easily and precisely; $35 set. Can't
say enough good about them. They have brake cables out now and I'll try
them when I need new ones.
Ritchey Alpha-bite and Omega-bite tires; lotsa grip, low weight, wear
o.k. low rolling resistance (for a very knobby tire)

| Best buys:
o Black Selle Italia Turbo saddle - $24.95 on sale from Performance
A huge improvement over my stock Vetta gel seat. I'll never buy anything
else!
o Continental Grand Prix clinchers and tubes - $29.99 each for the tires.
$6.99 each for the tubes. I've got 2500 miles on this rubber without a
single flat! The tread on the front tire looks new and the back looks OK
for maybe another 1/2 year. The tubes have a single seam as opposed to the
conventional double-seam found on most other tubes. Supposed to be less
susceptible to flats, but I think luck has more to do with it.

My TREK 2120 carbon touring bike. After doing all my road miles on
my Specialized Rockhopper Comp it was a pleasure to ride a real road
bike.
Had to remove the spd's though, my shins didnt like them much.
My worst mistake (not purchase) was to sell my mountain bike.
Now I have to get another one this spring.

Best Buy: My husbands Dimond Back MTB. Paid $400.00 (& no tax) saw
the same bike at meny other stores for $550-$600. The company Dimond
Back droped there price to all retail stores and alot of the retail
stores did not drop there prices to the consumer.
Second Best Buy: My UniVega MTB. Paid $300 and saw in alot of places
for $380
