2855.0. "STI compatibility with older frame?" by CAPO::BURDICK_JI () Mon Sep 19 1994 19:42

    I have a 10 year old Centurion Comp TA, which I have been upgrading
    over the past year (New wheels, cassette, derrailers) from Shimano New
    600EX to Ultegra components. Everything works fine except.....

    The new index shifting levers were not compatible with my braze-on
    fittings, so I stayed with friction shifting. I want to complete the
    upgrade with STI, but would prefer to use my existing braze-on's to
    mount the cable stops rather than use a clamp-on fixture.

    Has anyone successfully adapted STI to the "old style" braze on
    fittings?

    Thanks,

    Jim

2855.1problem solvedSWAM2::BURDICK_JIFri Jan 06 1995 15:2010
    An update, in case anyone else runs into the same problem....

    It turns out my lugs were not "old" style, but an alternative style
    that was tried a few years ago. (the base of the lug, rather than beinf
    square, is round with a protruding square "key"). After going to
    several shops who had no idea how to solve the problem, this great
    mechanic took the cable stops to the bench grinder and cut enough
    material away to fit over the key. It worked great!
