2776.0. "Manitou I hop-up or trade-up" by AIMHI::LARSON () Thu May 26 1994 00:03

I have a Manitou I fork. It works OK but it does suffer from noticable
flex, especially when standing on a technical climb (the worst time for
    brake pad rub).

I have already added a Ti skewer which has helped. I am looking for
recommendations on what else to do. I am looking for a new fork brace
but they are hard to come by for the Manitou I. Can my crown be milled
or do I have to by a new one? Or should I just list it in Note 2.* and
    buy a new fork?

    Any input?

    Mike

It you want to go the inexpensive route, there is a new product out
that was recently advertised in Mountain Bike magazine that is
basically 2 large "washers" that you add to your axel to give to more
surface area. This effectively gives you some of the stiffness you
would get from upgrading to a large axel hub (like a Ringle') for much
less money. I can't recall what the product name was, but can check on
    it if you're interested.
Your problem is typical for slider-type forks. Usually you have to
add a fork brace and/or larger hubs to reduce this flexing. If you're
going to get a new fork in the future and still want suspension,
consider the AMP (or Concept), the Lawhill Leader (both rigid legged
with the suspension above), or the Softride suspension stem. If you
really prefer sliders, consider the Halsten (inverted legs- like a
motocross bike) or plan on larger hubs and fork braces (included with
    most of the newer sliders)
