2768.0. "TREK 720 Need Info" by SALEM::YANNONE () Thu May 12 1994 14:25

    	I have a chance to buy a, never used, Trek 720 21 speed on, off road
    mountain bike. I am looking for some input. This is an enduro style
    bike that's all I know. Is there another name brand I can compare to?
    etc....

    		Thank you

    fyi..I believe a TREK 720 is not a true off road mountain bike.

    In this years brouchuer it describes the 720 as:

    "Perfect for short jaunts to the library, bank and grocrey store. And
    tranquil excursions on bike paths and nature trails."

    Do not buy this bike if you are looking to get serious about
    mountain biking.

RE: <<< Note 2768.0 by SALEM::YANNONE >>>

Indeed, the 720 is not a mountain bike. My wife bought one last fall. It's
a hybrid bike, meant for mild off-road riding such as on graded trails, dirt
roads, etc. (in addition to on-road riding). It has a steel frame, Grip Shift
shifters, and Shimano Altus components (I can't remember the name of the exact
Altus group, but it's the higher-end one of the three or four different groups
in the Altus line). My wife has been pretty happy with it, though she is not a
serious cyclist.

Other models we looked at were other Treks, and the Bianchi Advantage.

See 2731.6 for my review when I was looking this year.
