The new season for the Harvard Sportsmen's Club MOUNTAIN BIKE BIATHLON
     is starting this Sunday...

The dates are Sunday Oct. 17th, Saturday Nov. 6th, and Saturday Nov.
     20th.

It is small bore shooting combined with a 1 mile (consisting of 1-3
laps) loop made up of single track and flat double track.

     There are 4 categories:

                             Rifle - Men & Women
                             Pistol - Men & Women

     SAFETY:

     - Strict adherence to the shooting rules are required
     - Strictly obeying the range officer is required

NOTE: Some familiarity with range rules and firearms would be
             extremely helpful (and probably appreciated).

     - Eye & ear protection while shooting a MUST!
     - Helmets are required

     EQUIPMENT:

                            o Firearms deemed unsafe/unfair advantage

     - Pistol - Any .22 cal. except:

                            o Barrels over 6 7/8"
                            o .22 Magnums
                            o Firearms deemed unsafe/unfair advantage

Rifles: 42yds. (5) 3 1/2" steel trgts. freestyle (prone is allowed)

     - Riding time is calculated
     - Each missed target is a 30 second penalty
     - Taking more than (6) shots - penalty

Penalties & riding time are added to calculate total time.

     PRIZES:

Prize awards will be based on performance in your class and based one
out of five. If there are 20 racers in your class prozes go to the top
     four.

     MISC:

     - Inclement weather will cause cancellation
     - New shooters must be checked out/qualified prior to racing that day
     - Race is generally limited to 35 racers so pre-register
     - Need range help

     For information call:

     DAYS --- PETER ELLIOT (508) 485-0663
     NIGHTS - NIALL JOHNSON (508) 648-7548

     I've done this - It's really fun! I don't have the start/registration
times or directions... I will be calling for the start times and post
     them here.

Chip,

Two corrections - there will not be separate categories for rifle
and pistol (I "think" it will be pistol only) and some of the dates you
listed are incorrect - all events will be held on Sunday, so the dates are:

October 17th
November 7th
November 21st
December 5th

Other Info:

Registration and new shooter qualification at 8:00am. Race starts at
9:30am. Each rider must bring a helmet, eye and ear protection. The entry
fee is $10.00 with 50% cash payback and merchandise prizes. Firearms and
ammo are provided.

Directions to the Harvard Sportsman's Club - Rt 495 to Rt 2 West. Taylor
Road exit. North on Taylor road (a left if your coming from from 495 South or
a right if your coming from 495 North). 1/4 mile, turn left onto Porter Road.
Go to the end of Porter Road and turn left onto Whitcomb. Whitcomb for 2.5
miles and left into Harvard Sportsmen's Club.

                               **** NOTE *****

The firearms are NOT carried while riding, they stay at the range which
is under the control of 2 safety officers. If you do not have a pistol
permit, belong to a shooting club or have not raced in any of last years
events YOU WILL NEED TO QUALIFY prior to the start of the race. Qualifying
involves a lecture on safety, range rules, and practice shooting a pistol.

The opening event was great fun (despite the weather). Peter Elliot and
Bud Deshler did a great job laying out the course. This event was
reminiscent of the earlier days in MTB competitions - few competitors
    and lots of fun.

This was my first experience with firearms. The safety people did a
great job. There was ample time for practice.

I heard the November 7th EFTA race scheduled at Wrentham may not
take place. This should equate to a larger turnout for the next
MB Biathlon also scheduled for November 7th.

    Hope to see you there...

    Lori
