2589.0. "Closed Digital Facility Century route plan" by MSBCS::BROWN_L () Mon Jun 07 1993 19:14

I'm planning the Closed Digital Facility Century, a 100 mile bike
ride that connects closed Digital facilities with scenic backroads
in central Massachusetts. (Somebody was bound to do it, right?)

    [preliminary CDFC:]
Start out in Maynard (Mill, )
South to Hudson (small medical products building on 62?)
South to Marlboro (BP, UPO, Nickerson Rd, MOO, Forest St, others?)
    South to Westboro (Flanders Rd)
(Northboro? NRO is still open, drat)
    Northwest to Boylston House
    North to Lancaster House
North of Ft Devens across Ayer to Chelmsford
South to Littleton (LTN, Kimbell's ice cream stop)
    Return to Mill

(So far about 80 miles... this is where I need your help in adding some
facilities: Roxbury and Westminster are too far out of the way, Franklin
is a possibility. What closed [or soon to be closed] facilities have
been overlooked within a 25-30 mile radius of Marlboro?)

Try Chelmsford, there are 3 or 4 buildings that have closed there.
Probably could do enough to make up the 20 miles. I used to work in CHM
and I think another one is CTO.

     NEWS FLASH - Westminster, Ma

     Hey, we're still open too!!!!

     Chip

P.S. I'm interested, but can't help with a "closed plant" loop.
2589.7STUDIO::IDECan't this wait 'til I'm old?Tue Jun 08 1993 12:1910
Well, there were originally 5 NRO sites, and only 1.5 or 2.5 are still
open. So I guess it qualifies. Everyone except the labs has recently
vacated NRO5, too. We're not dead yet, but we're not going to be here
    much longer.

The good news is that we can bring all the bikes we want in the
facility. I was thinking of constructing a velodrome in here after
they remove the cube walls. :-)

WJO (Westford) just up the road from Kimballs (at the intersection
near the Westford regency. Closed down about 2 + years ago. It was
a leased building. I think it has been leased again.

ACO (Acton) at Piper Road and Rt2. Just vacated a few weeks ago. I'm
still sorting out the telecomm stuff in that building. This is near
rt 27 and rt 2 intersection.

                        ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I heard this from a local buisiness, they claimed a town selectman
told them that; something about telcom stuff going thru the Mill
    and stuff.

Naturally, I won't believe anything till it happens these days.

My personal favorite...BKO. It used to be the Education & Training
Logistics site in Billerica, MA. Nice scenic roads around the prison
    ;-)

There's also DDD in Nashua. Was that one mentioned?

Of course there is the old Bedford training facility (BUO?), but
that might push you way out past the century mark.

and the CFO1 and 2 facilities off of Baker Road in Concord as well
