2532.0. "Trying to get Some riding in during training!" by KYOA::BOYLE (Dirty Jobs Done Dirt Cheap) Mon Apr 19 1993 15:02

    I am attending training during the week of 4/25-4/30 up in Littleton.
    Staying in Westford. I plan on bringing my bike. Can anyone recommend
    a 15-25 Mile route in that area? Possibly, are there any clubs,
    groups, that take a 20 Mile evening loop at touring pace (not race
    pace)?

    Thanks in advance,

2532.1Using Route 110 In Westford\Littleton\Chelmsford\AyerLHOTSE::DAHLCustomers do not buy architecturesMon Apr 19 1993 16:5630
RE: <<< Note 2532.0 by KYOA::BOYLE "Dirty Jobs Done Dirt Cheap" >>>

I live in Westford. I can give some overall route guidance. A significant road
which bisects Westford approximately East-West is Route 110, a two-lane 40-45
MPH zoned road which carries a fair amount of trafic. If you're comfortable
around cars, it's a good road to use since it's hard to get lost on it (e.g.,
it doesn't come to a dead-end in some desolate place) and is in OK shape. Are
you staying at the Westford Regency? That hotel is on 110.

A landmark: exit 32 in Westform off of Interstate 495 leads to the street known
locally as Boston Post Road. Route 110 is just south of 495 at this point by
about 1000 feet. (Also, exit 31 in Littleton off of 495 gets you to 110 again;
110 is about 1000 feet south of 495 there too.)

From the intersection of 110 and Boston Post Road, 110 heads East into
Chelmsford for about, oh, 5 or 6 miles before running into a crazy intersection
(five or six roads coming together, not all of which have stop signs). I'd turn
around at this point and head back West to Westford.

From the intersection of 110 and Boston Post Road, 110 heads West into
Littleton (past major DEC facilities, though I'm not sure which), then into
Ayer I think. 110 encounters a rotary (traffic circle) with a McDonalds on it
just into Ayer, which is probably 10 or 12 miles from the Route 110/Boston Post
Road intersection. I'd turn around just before the rotary.

Using this stretch of 110, from the Regency as an example, you could head West
to Ayer, then back, past the Regency, continuing to Chelmsford, then back, for
about a 30+ mile ride. If you omit either lobe, and/or turn around earlier, you
can shorten the route to fit the time you have.
