2487.0. "GILL TRAINING RACES" by WMOIS::GIROUARD_C () Tue Jan 26 1993 10:47

I have a list of quite a few scheduled races. I'll list them as time
    draws closer to the events.

For now here is what's dropping in first:

GILL TRAINING ROAD RACES (Gill is in western Ma)

Well, I called Bob Perry last night and got an answering machine.
Given the current disgusting situation, I'll default on another call
and assume the Gill Race is dead (in the snow).

Just give me 1 minute with Mother Nature... Just one minute...

A friend and I did the Gill race on Sunday. The roads were dry, a bit
of sand on one corner. The rain held off until 30 seconds after the
finish of our race - Public "C" 21 miles, 2 times around a 10.6 mile
loop. EVERYONE (including me) has forgot how to ride in a pack and
it was a miracle that there were no crashes! I raced this course last
October, but I didn't remember the hills being as big as they were
yesterday. Guess a couple of months sitting on the couch will do
    that to you.

I got caught sleeping at the end of the 1st lap and missed a break of
10 riders. I chased with another guy and we caught them a 1/2 mile
later. Several people took turns attacking on the hills, but nobody
got dropped. Race ended in a 12 man sprint with enough
    bobbing/weaving/swerving to make it "interesting".
