2477.0. "The Generic Direction Note" by AD::PEASLEE () Tue Jan 05 1993 15:34

I have recently started working at HLO2 and I'm trying
to figure out the most efficient way to bicycle to the
building. There is quite abit of construction going on
so if I go up the hill and go left I weave through potential
    construction areas.
If I follow the route outlined by the friendly Security Guard,
I end up going up a steep hill and down another hill and then up
a very steep hill to get to the building.
Does anyone know of a more direct route - hopefully one that will
bypass some of the hilly terrain.
I would be coming from RT 62 heading into Hudson from Clinton.
Can I continue through the center of town and go through a back way?

BTW - how does Security at HLO2 view bicycles inside the buidling?
Do any of you have any experience bringing your bike in?

    Thanks,
    Nancy

2477.1Back Way To HLO2 From Hudson CenterTECRUS::TECRUS::ROSTGive me Beefheart or give me deathTue Jan 05 1993 16:5818
    Re: .0, HLO2

Nancy, there is a back way to HLO2 from the center of Hudson. There
are a few ways to get there. Try this:

Instead of bearing right at the rotary, continue across the circle
and continue on 62 past City Hall to a traffic light. There is a
self-serve gas station on the right corner, turn right here pass
immediately through another light and take your next left up a side
street, at the end of that street bear right, take the next left and
continue until you get to an intersection with a road coming in from
the right and a small mini-mall on your left (Forest Ave. Pizza). Take
the right, keep right at the fork and head up the hill to the back
entrance to HLO2 on your right.

Wish I knew the names of all the streets, but I don't live in Hudson!

FWIW, if your office is in the front (HLO1), when you come in the back
entrance of HLO, go left up the shipping/HL02 road, ride up on the grass
on your left, and alongside the fenced in area til you pop out at the
front of HLO1. (In other words, go around the buildings on the south
side; opposite of the construction). There's a narrow path with a cable
lying in it, but if you're good, you don't need to get off your bike.
I used to go that way even before the construction began... faster than
taking the road on around on the north side. Road bikes have no problem
with it, although the last time I was at HLO, there was some mud where
    you pop out.

And also FWIW, I live in Clinton and it takes me just as long to ride
to HLO as to MLO... zigzaging roads, hills, downtown Hudson, and coming
up the back way really eat up time. There's at least a dozen practical
ways to get there: 62 from West Berlin all the way to the Hudson
rotary is the fastest, but 62 in Berlin is pretty narrow and busy.
I like going backroads down to the Northboro rotary, then east into
    downtown Hudson.

As for bikes in the building, a friend who doesn't work there but
needed to visit recently had a run-in there. He brought it in; they
complained; he ignored them. But there is an overhang right in front
of the guard station, and if the bike rike isn't there, just drag it
    over. Kratz

Since Hudson is in the news, the (or a) backway from the Hudson rotary:

Right (or south) out of the rotary on 85 (Washington St)
    First left on South St
Right at lights on Brook St
    First left on Winter St.
    Right on Forest
First left (to stay) on Forest
Right on Marlboro Rd, up hill
Right into rear entrance to HLO

2477.4Hills are the best part!AKOCOA::RJOHNSONMon Jan 11 1993 16:285
Oh come on Nancy! The hills are good for you!

Hope you find a good route!

    Re: .4

Of course if I had a Trek 5200 (like someone else I know), I wouldn't
mind the hills quite so much.
I hope it is a fashionable color that coordinates well with your
    bicycle lock. ;^)

2477.6Lock is too heavy!AKOCOA::RJOHNSONMon Feb 08 1993 17:025
Well, it's definitely a great color, but, I'll need to get a
new lock. Actually, I probably will never leave it unattended,
besides, a lock would add too much wieght! Spring is coming!
